I bought an 870P (Thanks for the help)

I just brought home a new Remington 870P, and I'm happy with the way it looks and function-checks. It might be a couple of weeks before I shoot it, but so far, so good.

I was in a nostalgic mood, so I ordered #4899, with a walnut stock and blued finish.

For the past several months, I've been reading about shotguns in this forum. I'd like to thank all of you who have posted 870-related facts and opinions. I owned a Wingmaster as a teenager, and handled police models as an adult, but it had been almost twenty years since I last shopped for a shotgun. I was confused by the differences between the current Express, Wingmaster, and Police models. But with all of the excellent information available here at TheFiringLine, I was able to sort it out and make a decision.

I recently purchased the same model of 870P that you did as my first shotgun. This forum was a great source of information about the 870 and really helped make an informed decision. I can't be happier with my 870P. Everything about it is quality.

Since then, I've purchased a 28" vent rib Wingmaster barrel for it, and I started shooting skeet. Now I am addicted! By the weekend, I have a "need" to go shooting. I simply put the 18" barrel back on when I get home for HD purposes.

congrats on your purchase Retired. I hope to make my first shotgun purchase (an 870P) here pretty soon, if I ever find a place that has or can get #4449. I noticed you were from northern California. Do you know of any BLM land around san jose that is legal to shoot on? I'm only out here going to school so I'm not real familiar with the area. Thanks

I don't know of any good BLM spots in the area.

I bought my 870P at L.C. Action in San Jose, the Remington law enforcement wholesaler for this area. They had several models in stock, but I had to special order the #4899. Remington shipped it three weeks later.

Also finding a place around here is a problem. I have not yet fired my new Rem.870P.
Retired what did you pay for you'r 870P?
 
I chose #4899 because reminds me of an 870 I used to own. But it is one of the least expensive of the police models. The prices seem to go up quickly if you start adding magazine extensions, sights, and lights.
