I bought a Raven .25 and... I like it :-)

That's right, the garbage, gangsta pimp gun of the 1970's and 80's is part of the TruthTellers arsenal now. For all the stuff people say about it, I think this is a really cool gun. Yes, reloading the thing is difficult with the small grip and European mag release, but I don't care.

The chrome finish on the one I got is excellent and this just looks like a really nice gun and makes the slide's action feel very, very smooth. Sure, that chrome's shine makes getting a sight picture difficult in bright light... but I don't care.

The Raven has some heft to it and doesn't feel like a toy or a piece of junk at all. I wouldn't carry it tho because there are better, lighter guns today. Some will say it's a waste of money considering the many other options out there in a similar size with more powerful ammunition, but I... don't... care.

The original American made Saturday Night Special, the Raven .25. It's awesome.

Sold a ton of them in a gun shop years ago and seldom saw any problems with them other than broken firing pins from dry firing. I kept a supply of firing pins and mags and that is about all they ever needed. They retailed for $39.95 back then.

A Raven .25 was my first handgun purchase. Paid $50 for it at a gun show at the Holiday Inn in Midland Texas.

I put a lot of rounds through that little gun. It was in my pocket all through my service in the USMC and all of the places I got to go to.

Traded it off to another Marine for a pair of boots I wanted. I was getting out, and he still had some years to go. I don't think I ever cleaned it, but it never failed me.

That was before the internet was around to tell me they sucked. I would love to get another just for the memories.

I was just thinking about trading my Browning Hp in on one.....

I really do not need three BHPs...and having a gun I can stick in a watch pocket will fulfill a need...

The mother of pearl grips are dumb. I got one with the wood grips and it just looks better in contrast to the chrome finish.

Glad you like the gun. We don't need some of the commentary.

I will clean them out and continue to actually talk about the gun usages and design.

Paid $42 for a new Raven...and a box of ammo at a gas station years ago. The gun shot fine for as long as I had it. Amazingly enough at 50ft the little gun could hit a target. I don't remember ever having a single issue with it in all those years.

I inherited one from my grandma and it was the first handgun I owned. Kind of kicked off everything for me and handguns. Mine came NIB and unfired. I've put maybe 300 rounds through it with no misfires and shoots to point of aim at 7 yards. Dimensionally it is wider than my kel-etc P-32 but significantly smaller in both length and height.
Biggest downsides:
It's 25 acp
It's heavy for its size (15 ounces unloaded)
The 'safety' is so loose it will move back and forth in the pocket, so I won't carry it with one in the chamber.

Honest to God, my friend has a little Raven chromed out .25 "wit da wood grips yo" and it's a decently handsome little piece. I've thought about offering him a bill or so for it but while I've read these aren't as bad as some of the "ring of fire" .25s, they are not quality pieces and they are not meant for any kind of regular shooting. At the end of the day they're still pot metal junk made to the lowest price point possible, and that keeps my sights set on a Baby Browning or a Beretta 950 Jetfire, quality .25 ACP guns worth owning.

^ While I won't deny that the Colt or the Beretta's are better guns, for how weak, uncommon, and expensive the .25 costs, I don't see how spending another $200+ dollars on a Beretta is worth it. I'd rather spend $200 on a Ruger LCP, a more capable caliber.

IMO, the .25 is nigh worthless today. 110 years ago? It had a place given what was capable in manufacturing then.

I bought the Raven to own the original SNS and to own a .25 pistol, kilt two birds with one stone.

The Raven is certainly not the original Saturday Night Special-that phrase was in use long before Ravens came into existence. It was coined to describe the cheap pistols of the early 1900s.

.25 acp ammunition is not uncommon, and is as effective as a .44 magnum with proper shot placement. The .25 is far from useless-it's as useful as it ever has been.
