I been thinkin of gettin a 329 PD. Ive got an old Ruger 44M Deerstalker Carbine and thought a revolver to go with it would be nice.
I looked at an S&W 329PD at a local gun store this past Saturday and really liked it. I am wondering about the recoil from this weapon for older hands like mine. (+60). Also I reload for the carbine so it seems like a natural progression to me.
Any likes or dislikes on this gun will be appreciated.

Speaking as one whose hands are 75 years old, the thought of a 25.1 ounce .44 Magnum is not a really pleasant one. And apparently, from posts I've read here and there, some people with a lot younger mitts have found the recoil daunting.

Sounds kind of like a 14-ounce .357 Magnum J-frame to me, and I know that's not much fun to shoot.

I had a 329 PD, It did not like my reloads. I could not crimp them enough to keep the bullets seated. Also from my experience the ScTi revolvers do not hold up well to lots of shooting. I dumped my ScTi revolvers for Stainless. For a little more you can have a PC 629 or the same price a nice stainless 629.

I been thinkin.

That ALWAYS gets me in trouble......

Over on the S&W Forum most everyone who has the 329 PD admits to carrying and shooting 44 Specials. Several have been honest enough to admit that one cylinder of real Magnums was enough to convince them Specials were the way to go.

Of course there are always one or two who claim the recoil doesn't bother them. I always hope they someday sign up for a 5 day training course and only have their Scandium frame/Titanium cylinder revolver and a case of full magnum ammo to get through the week. Wonder how macho they'll be come Saturday? (LOL)

I haven't shot one of those, but I've handled one. Is there a particular reason you are drawn to the lighter gun? Why not just get a regular 629?

Macho does not enter into it for me. My experience with them is they do not hold up to the shooting.

I been thinkin.....too much

Well I gave up on the idea of shootin a .44magnum revolver. Common sense has prevailed against my normal thinkin. I thank all of yoosguys for your input.

That being said, I found a real nice .32L Taurus target revolver at a gun show this past weekend that turned out to be a real FIND. Looks brand new with no visible wear and was priced at about half the value. A bit of research and I found out it was made in 1991. Upon test firing it Sunday afternoon I was poppin steel pigs at just under 50 yards.

This eve I am headed for the range with the wife and some LSWC I rolled up a while ago. She cant wait to shoot it too.

Thanx again.:)
