I ask a favor - not for myself

The following letter to the editor appeared verbatim on Page 12A of the 26 May 2000 edition of The Des Moines Register:

quote:
Is Abel missing?

The parents of Kayne Robinson named their son prophetically. They just spelled it wrong.

-Bonnye Wall, 4040 10th St., Des Moines.[/quote]

For the most part, you may know Robinson from his work in the NRA. I also know him from the Iowa Sportsmen's Federation, the Iowa Republican Party, and as a retired assistant chief of the DMPD.

Perhaps he is not a purist, but I count Kayne as a valuable RKBA ally and a decent human being, so I was sick and sad to read this implication that he is a murderer.

I know Wall, also, through The Register's previous, frequent publication of her letters. Wall is a committed socialist and enemy of KRBA, immune to logic. This letter is representative of her propensity to employ ad hominem arguments.

So, as to the favor, I would take it as a mark of respect should any of my TFL comrades have the time and inclination to correspond with Wall. Here is her complete mailing address:

BONNYE WALL
4040 10TH ST
DES MOINES IA 50313-3316

Should she correspond, it might be entertaining and illuminating to post her replies in this topic.

Thank you; best regards.

I'll see you at the TFL End Of Summer Meet!

I confess that I do not understand what you are asking, Coinneach, which is not your fault - I suffer from Gulf War brain damage, which interferes with my ability to communicate.

I'm just as puzzled as Coinneach. All I see is a short letter to the editor. No request or other comment from Bonnye. I don't see any reason for additional correspondence to her based only upon the contents of your post. Her comment wasn't really an ad hominem argument, it was more properly a prejudicial statement. This is simply an observation.

Slowpoke, that sucks. Makes me glad I was stateside during that whole Charlie Fotxtrot. :(

My question is, who's Kayne Robinson, and of what is he accused?

I am serious, folks.

Slowpoke, let me try...
-----
Slowpoke Rodrigo knows Kayne Robinson - a good person who defends our RKBA.

Robinson is defamed by Bonnye Wall who suggests Kayne should be spelled "Cain". Bonnye asks rhetorically if Abel (Cain's brother) is missing.

Slowpoke asks that those who care to help out please write Bonnye letters of reprimand or at least write a friendly letter to the editor refuting her snotty implication.

(How am I doing, Slowpoke?)

Eureka! That question I can answer - Kayne Robinson, as in NRA Vice President Kayne Robinson, the Number 2 honcho at NRA. The writer is imputing that Kayne's work for RKBA makes him a murderer. I failed to conceive that any TFL member would not know Kayne, certainly not any TFL member in the NRA.

I also failed to make clear that the three of us, Robinson, Wall and I, all live in Des Moines - thus the local angle.

Thank you, Dennis, that is exactly what I was trying to impart.

Adding to my frustration at my own inability, I now notice that I posted in the wrong forum. It was my intent to put this in Legal and Political.

Supporting Our Ranks

The NRA salutes its own as First Vice President Kayne Robinson retires as Des Moines' Assistant Chief of Police.

By Karen Mehall

Kayne Robinson is just like you and me, a fellow NRA member working for what he believes in. He stays in front of the people, safeguarding their rights through his actions as well as his words. A former street cop, he climbed the ranks to assistant chief of pokice in Des Moines, Iowa. As a Distinguished police pistol shooter, licensed pilot, avid hunter and outdoorsman, crime fighter, political activist and public servant, this man wears many hats. It just so happens his hats include being the Frist Vice President of the NRA.

Robinson began a 31-year career with the Des Moines Police Department in the late 1960s following service in the Marine Corps as a sergeant in Vietnam. During his law enforcement tenure, he held a command position in most of its key units, including Patrol, Tactical, Narcotics and Community Relations.

In 1991 Robinson was named assistant chief of police, where he remained until his retirement in February of this year, commanding nearly 275 officers in the Patrol Division. He also served as the State 911 Emergency Communications Commissioner, president of the Iowa Association of Chiefs of Police and was the only male officer to be elected police Officer of the Year by the Iowa Association of Women Police.

As reported in the Des Moines Register upon his recent retirement, fellow assistant chief William McCarthy commended Robinson for his dedication, his ability to emphasize the importance of individual officers, and in his ability to politically monitor all legislative bills that could impact the law enforcement community. "He hasn't been afraid to be out front on issues that were important to him," said McCarthy. "He's gambled. He's risked his career at times. You have to admire and respect that."

In devoting his life to public service on so many fronts, Robinson, 55, is First Vice President of the NRA. An NRA Life Member for more than 30 years, he is a Benefactor member and a member of the NRA Board of Directors, where he has served over 13 years. He holds key positions on several Board committees and is chairman of the board of the NRA Whittington Center, the NRA"s world-renowned shooting facility in Raton, New Mexico.

With political activities spanning 35 years, Robinson accepted the position as chairman of the Iowa Republican Party upon retiring as assistant chief. In the forefront of Iowa politics since 1964, he has served as president of several political action committees and has managed local, state and federal-level presidential campaigns in Iowa for candidates including President Ronald Reagan, Bob Dole and Phil Gramm.

According to his law enforcement and political credentials, Robinson is a former Iowa state police pistol champion and a member of the 1480 Club for Excellence. He is a member of the Iowa State Rifle & Pistol Association Board of Directors and has served as executive director for the Iowa Sportsmen's Federation. Conducting frequent media interviews, he has testified before state congressional and U.S. Senate committees in support of gun rights legislation, such as McClure-Volkmer, and was presented with a Certificate of Recognition from the Iowa House of Representatives.

Robinson is a graduate of Drake University and numerous law enforcement-related schools, including the Senior Management Institute for Police, Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Supervisor's School, Police Academy Criminal Code School, Drug Enforcement Administation School, FBI Special Tactical Firearms School and the Police Armorers Training School.

Robinson's legacy to law is integrity, truth and justice. NRA is proud to recognize one of its own for his contribution to the law enforcement community, and as a fellow NRA member, he deserves our praise and gratitude.

Doh!! Note the light bulb over my head also. I didn't know who Kayne was and thought he was perhaps a local who had been accused of murder in a local trial. Believe me there's a lot of people I don't know about that maybe I should.

I doubt that many in Iowa undertsood what Wall was waling about in the first place. If they took the time to find out, no doubt they found it straight out of Wally World.
