I am now thinking of ordering two P99's

Got to thinking. I am going to get a P99 for my wife to carry. But(and this just hit me) I realized that it may smart for me to carry the same pistol. Besides, I like the way it feels too.

Am I going overboard, or am I getting a new obsession that I can't recognize?

So, I now thinking of ordering a P99 Military and a regular P99, both in 9mm.

What do you think?

Do it. I've got 6 of them. All of mine are .40's however, but they're all great shooters.

I could understand two or maybe even four so that after 500,000 rounds or however long they last you can have two more but six... why so many in .40?

P99, how long have you had your P 88? That is the gun I dream about at night. Any suggestions for finding one(full size) that I don't have to give up my first child for;) Also, any experience with the P88 Compact, I know it's not the same but it's close and I might actually be able to afford one

Lowrangerider,

I have so many because I wanted one of each flavor. I've got the P99, P99 QPQ, P99 Military, P99 QA, and two out of only 4 made P99 QA Militaries. The last two are sequentially serial numbered and have never been shot. I know where the other two are and have shot one of them. They also part of the same serial number sequence.

Modifiedbrowning,

I've had my P88 for at least three years now. I've never found one for under $800, so expect to pay the piper. I would surf the internet auction sites to find one at a relatively good price. (auctionarms.com, forthehunt.com, gunsamerica.com)

I haven't shot the P88 compact. I have handled one and came close to buying it, but the guy selling it took away the hi-caps and swapped them with standard 10 rounders, so I passed. The P88 Compact from what I've seen is also an awesome gun. Walther makes other versions of it which include the champion and competition models. I've heard that these are very popular with IPSC style shooters in Europe. The compact isn't as accurate as its full sized brother, but is close enough. If you can afford a competition or champion, those would rival the full size P88, maybe even beat it in the accuracy department.

Re: The Walther P88:

I too, was enamored with the P88 and finally got one. I traded a Glock 23 with NS and a Steyr M357 for one NIB. A fair deal considering what I had in those two guns (he was asking $1000).

I've shot about 50-60 rounds through it, and I was underwhelmed. I can certainly shoot my P99 and P7s better than the P88. I mean, it's nice, but the DA trigger is very heavy, the SA is nice. But the grip is pretty large, and I have smaller hands.

I'm going to keep it, because it's a great piece of Walther History, and it's a marvelous piece of machinery, but it's not everything I expected.

Now, the P5, that's another story! A great pistol I can shoot just as accurately as my P7s and P99s.

My next Walther will be a P5 Compact! :D

Regards,
James
