I am now the proud owner of a Glock 26

This is the weapon that I should have bought to begin with. I made the mistake of buying a value weapon in the form of the Taurus PT 111 instead of buying quality in the form of the Glock 26. I've remedied that with this purchase and I'm happy that I now have the gun I wanted in the first place. I originally chose the Taurus over the Glock because I did not want to pay so much for a Glock, now when I try to put a price tag on my life, I can't believe I made such a stupid decision to begin with. I'm just glad I learned it the easy way and had the opportunity to learn the lesson without injury.

I gave $625.00 for the gun(new) and that included an installed set of Meprolight Tru-Dot Nightsights. This model of night sights to be specific.

I've always disliked the look and feel of a belly band, but the dealer I bought the gun from had his own custom line fitted to the Glock sub-compact series, and it met my concealed carry needs perfectly.

All in all, I am happy to be a Glock owner and I can't wait to get to the range to put a couple hundred rounds through it.

I've heard though that this gun can be picky about unjacketed lead bullets. Can anyone reccomend ammunition that has performed well for them in this gun?

I'm looking for two types of bullet:

1) Personal Protection Hollow Points
2) Target/Range

Thanks for any suggestions!

Congrats on the new addition. Always puts a spring in your step. You have an excellent piece there. I always avoid non-jacketed ammo. People that know alot more than me shoot them all the time, I guess, but I choose not to. I think they are very particular about cleaning the lead out of the barrels. Anyway, enjoy that fine firearm.

New Glock

Congrats on the new Glock, Your gonna love it ;)
I've got the 27 and wouldn't even think of parting with it :)
Again congrats on the new one and I hope it serves you well :)

Congrats....I have a G27 (basically same gun in .40) and I love it.

Do not shoot lead bullets in a Glock BBL. If it aftermarket 3rd party Barrell go for it. Has something to do with the hexagonal rifling of the Glock Barrell and really screws it up.

I like Gold Dots or Golden Sabers out of mine for personal protection.

Sidearmor IWB for CCW is my choice.

Anything cheap for the range.

Your price seemed a little high.
I paid $494.00 for mine (and that is a little high cops get them here for $398.00)

Unjacketed Lead bullets are a no-no in all glocks with factory barrels because their rifling system can cause a lead build up which can cause pressures to rise dangerously. Most any name brand jacketed (including jacketed hollowpoint) ammo should be fine for practice. CCI, Winchester, Federal, Remington. I use Blazer ammo from CCI for practice due to the low cost, never had a problem. Heard occasional problems or suspicions of problems with Wolf and WinClean.

Thiers a thousand threads on the best self defense ammo. Some swear by Corbon 115grain +p+ others swear that it gives to little penetration if the shots not perfect full on. SOme love the heavier 147 grain hollowpoints some don't. Who knows. I'd suggest a good hollowpoint in the mid-range (125-127 grain) from Winchester or CCI just to split the difference.

I recently bought a Taurus PT-145 even though I really wanted an HK USP 45 Compact. I talked myself into getting the Taurus because of its 10+1 capacity and small size. But, after having the Taurus for a couple months, I still badly wanted the USP!
The PT-145 functioned flawlessly and would make a great carry gun, but I sold it and bought the USP I really wanted and now I'm finally satisfied! (except that now I want many more H&Ks!)
So, congratulations on getting what you really wanted! It really is worth the extra money to get what you really want!

I also have a Glock 26 that I've had for almost 4 years and was the first gun I ever bought. It's been a great little gun.

I never shoot unjacketed bullets in any of my guns. Just a personal choice.
My favorite range ammo is Winchester 115 gr. FMJ
Favorite defense ammo is Speer Gold Dot 124 gr +P

Enjoy the Glock 26!

Unfortunately I had no choice but to take a slight hit in the price. I made many phone calls and trips to dealers and this was the best price I could find in the DFW Texas area.

The line I got from every sold-out dealer is that Glock distributors are filling their LEO quotas right now and it was impossible to get any stock in.

My only real option aside from paying a premium was to wait for the next gun show and I really didn't want to do that. Besides, I felt that with the Tru-Dot sights already installed, it was an acceptable price.

He was asking $675 with the sights, but I talked him down to $625 and he threw in a grip extender similar to this for free and gave me a good discount on a Kydex paddle holster and the belly belt which helped even things out.

Congrats and welcome to the Glock Club. Will have my G30 soon. In NY things take the longest. The thing that convinced me was the filthy rental that I put 1000 rounds in 2 visits at my range and not one hiccup. Good luck with your new G26.

Sky,

I found the little G26 to be amazingly accurate in my hands due to its ergonomic grip & unpredictable trigger.

Reliability is not as good as my HKs.

I recommend Corbon 115gr +P ammo for defense. It is very effective and has nearly zero muzzle flash at night.

I use the G26 for ankle carry in a Renegade holster. Very comfortable and positive retention above the ankle. With fashionably long pants it is very well concealed.

Good luck!

HOTTDAMN!!!! Somebody actually took my advice!!!

Welcome to the Dark Side my son.

My loving wife (she confiscated my G26, you know) keeps it loaded with 124gr Remington Golden Sabers for defense, and 115gr S&B hardball for practice and plinking.:D

Although I think that Trijicons are better, Meps are not bad, although I have heard that they have had their own brand of quality control problems. Look for any sign of them dimming out.

Because of your sad experience, I have pressed my Glock 30 back into service. In essance, I have switched the roles of my two .45's, with the PT-145 being the backup for use in descreet social conditions.(you can't put a G30 into your pocket) The G30 has taken it's rightful place as my primary carry pistol, although, I still feel that I have proven the combat worthiness of the Taurus after 650 trouble free roundsl!!!

One thing more, I am a fan of the 3.5lb connector. On both my wife's G26 and my G30, I have installed the 3.5lb connector and the reduced power trigger spring. This emulates the venerable 1911A1 in condition one. I find that I also shoot better with the 3.5lb connector than the stock trigger.

Resistance is futile!!!!!!!!

WARNING!! Glock's are like Lay's potato chips! Once you've had your first . . .

Saw your thread on the Taurus; sorry you had such a hassle. I sold a Kel-Tec P11 (which, unlike your PT-111 was very reliable) to purchase a Glock 27 and have had no regrets. The 27 is my second (and probably not my last) Glock. Great guns; welcome to the club.

SS,

Congrats on your purchase!
You won't be disappointed.

When I started looking for a carry piece, I got a KelTec.
Couldn't get used to the trigger.
At that time, (several years ago) S&W made a compact, single stack 9.
Thinner than the KelTec, but more of a Glock trigger.

Bought it.
Total piece of junk!.
That's when I got my G26.
Loved it! Don't have it any more, but I have had a Glock ever since. Currently a G19.
They are about as easy to break as a crowbar.

Ditto what everybody else said about lead bullets.
Your G26 should have no problem with Wolf (about $80-90/1000).
For defense I like Speer 124gr +P Gold Dots.
They are a great deal at $11.95/50 at Lippman,
http://www.lippman-enterprises.com/ammo.html .

I am hoping my Taurus turns out to be a keeper, but I have started looking at Glock 30s.
