I am now a FAL owner! YeeHaa!

Last weekend I picked up a FAL from a fellow TFLer for an really excellent price. I'm not sure if he would want me to identify him or not. If he does then I'm sure he will jump on this thread. But he was very generous, and I appreciate the super deal he gave me. (He was aware that I had a severe case of FAL envy from my many postings on the subject).

Its built on a Imbel inch receiver, with L1a1 parts. Very nice. B-square mount, Simmons 3x9. Bore looks great. And the best part, no gamble on buying a parts gun, because I already know that this one works good because of its previous owner.

Haven't gotten a chance to shoot it yet, been too busy this week. But I'm excited to take it out and punch some holes in the next few days.

One question though, anybody know of a source of 5 round mags for an inch pattern gun? I would like to take this deer hunting. :)

Congratulations.

You might be able to use the DSA 5-rnd metric mags and just put up with the slop. You also might be able to rig up a temporary 5-rnd magazine block.

Correia,

Nice Nice!!! Never had much interest in those kinda rifles, but starting to think about about them now. :)

Yep, this is from the t-shirt money. Which by the way you should be getting your stuff in the mail anytime now. :D

Congrats Correria, bet I know where you got it, but silence is golden.

Let us know how you like it!

This FAL will, of course, be making the trip to EOSM II, right? :D
Just kidding. Enjoy it. I'm scheming after a Garand right now, myself.

Congratulations... It should serve you well.
Yorec probably knows him too... I dont know if he wasnts to be named either - but he is a great guy with a taste for huge amounts of mexican food. :D

Yorec, George. Yep, lots of Mexican food, thats the guy. You guys should have seen the size of that burrito! Drop a roast on a tortilla and call it a burrito that is!

Don, I'm all over EOSM II! I want to go real bad!

R&H I've got your TFL hat at my place, give me a call and we can go shoot this thing! :D

Correia - forgot to say I saw used inch pattern FAL mags advertized in "The Sportsman's Guide." Don't have an issue handy ? Try: http://www.sportsmansguide.com/ And do a search under "shooting supplies" $9.97 is a good price, but they are usually in worse shape than the pictured one. Ah, well - might be a source for mags to refinish, huh?

Brand new, South African, steel mags for $6.50 a piece are available. Call Cliff Brown at (770) 307-0422 or email him at CliffBrown@mindspring.com. I will try to post his website later. He is a dealer from Georgia.

Very good to almost new Steyr mags $8.00 apiece at R Guns.

Addendum:
Actually ordered some of these and they just came in today (9/8). Well, almost new is a little generous on their part but all look functional. More like inbetween 50% and 80% left of original finish. Seen some use but still usable. Fit and lock in gun and hold bolt back. Haven't test fired yet.

Thanks for the mag help guys, but I've got plenty of 20 rounders that came with the gun, I was just looking for a 5 rounder for potential hunting use. :)

You guys really get a kick out of talking about 20-round mags in front of us Californians, don't you? :)

BTW, we can still buy stuff here that you guys can't get, like hemp shirts, organic bean sprouts, aromatic oils and triple non-fat decaf mochas, so there!

Check out Inter Ordance for 20 round metric mags. $39.95 plus shipping ($7) for four new mags, pebble leather mag holders, plastic muzzle cover, sling and cleaning kit. I got mine and they are great. Cleaning kit had multi-tool in it.
For $29.95 you can get the same deal with used mags. A real good buy! On the five rounder I have read where you can put a block of wood in mag to limit it to 5 rounds. Kind of like a plug in a shotgun. FWIW

I saw a bill board for the next gun show on my way home today but didn't catch the date. I was too mad for screwing up my physical test this morning. :( You know what I'm talking about George, see the related post over in general. A measly 10 seconds.
