I am looking for a gun to buy, help me decide!

I am looking for something 400$ and below, caliber doesn't matter as long as it meets other requirements. I would like it to come with at least a 10 round mag, must not look really funny (style doesn't matter too much) and carbines are preferred over rifles.

I am looking at some things by

Savage
Mossberg (specifically the 715)
Marlin Model 60
Marlin 795
Remington 597
Hi Point 9mm Carbine

And my last choice (don't ask why) Ruger 10/22

Can you please tell me if those companies/guns are any good, and tell me if there are better guns out there?

Well a few small questions.

1 How often do you plan on shooting it?
2 What kind of ranges are you planning on shoot to?

If you are planning on under 150 yards just about any .22 lr rifle will do the job.

Though from the sound of your post I am guessing something to shoot as fast as you can pull the trigger.

In that case the Ruger 10/22 would be hard to beat. Add a couple of the banana mags you are all set.

If you don't already have a 22 semi-auto, I'd go 10/22. I have a stainless 10/22 with original maple stock, $20 trigger, a bunch of 25 round mags, and a mag loader. It is very accurate and really a great gun. I also have the Marlin 925 bolt action and it is a disappointment, not accurate at all for a bolt action. The 10/22 is more accurate. But, I have seen many CZ's that are really nice and they all shoot pretty accurate.

I can speak from experience on the Marlin 795. I love mine. It has been very reliable, even when I have fed it low quality ammo. It is more than accurate enough, giving me consistent 3/4" groups at 50 yards when I shoot semi supported, and 1 1/2" - 2" at 50 yards offhand. I haven't seen any large mags for it (haven't looked, though, so they may be out there for all I know), but the 10 round standard mags have served me well.

For the other options, I can't say yea or nay, but I can say that most are more expensive than the 795. Less money for a rifle that performs well leaves more for ammo :D
