I want a new revolver and I am thinking it's time to add a .44 to my collection. I saw the post on the S&W PC 629 V comp. I realy like the looks of that gun. I was leaning towards a smith anyway because of the nice trigger and the fact that I like the looks alot more than Ruger's. Now that I've seen the PC model I don't know what to go with. How much difference in accuracy will I see between the PC and the standard 629? How much of a difference in felt recoil does the V-comp make? Also does the unfluted cylinder allow hotter loads?

I just did a search on this gun and I might have to think a little harder. I just read some pretty bad things about the new PC products. It's pretty dissapointing, The last thing I expected to hear was that the quality on these things is worse than revolvers that cost less than 1/3 of the price. I guess I will have to handle one and see for myself.

Will,
Im by no means an expert on PC guns from S&W. My dad has a couple of them but they are at least 10 years old and from what I know, mainly from him, shooting them and from here at TFL, back them ...they were a very very nice gun. HIS ARE! Current production of the PC is inconsistant. The only example of the gun your talking about I saw at a gun show recently. It was a nice gun but not anything near the level of the older PC guns Im used to.....I would have called it a "S&W Improved"...not a Performance Center gun. I was dissapointed it was a very nice looking gun....not worth near what they were asking for it, though.
Shoot well

Unfluted cylinder in same frame not stronger. Wall thickness same. They do attract some who like the look. They also add a tad of weight which slightly alters the ballance and recoil.

Should be less expensive to produce unfluted cylinder.

Lot of money for what is all too often a kit gun.

Thanks for the replys. I just can't beleve some of the stuff I read about this. One guy said that he was looking at three new PC's and two of the three the cylinder didn't even rotate.:barf: I mean how could S&W even let them out of the factory like that? I wish the Rugers weren't so damn ugly.. I don't know what to look for now.
