I am a short barrel freak and I need help!

I realize this now and I need help!
I need to see pictures of guns with 5 1/2" or less barrels!
I drool over chopped and bobbed Barrels!
I only buy guns with short barrels lately!
Is this a sickness or just that the asthetic appeal of a short barrel just pleases my eye? Is a barrel supposed to match the Ejector Rod housing or less?
I am now eyeing a new .45LC revolver, you guessed it, with a 4 1/2" bbl! I looked at the 7 1/2 and know it makes more power and is probablly easier to shoot accurately but I just can't do it!
Am I hopelessly hooked?
Got any pictures?

How about these?

Three recently rehabbed pistols.

For me it is a phase

I went through the I-hate-Walkers phase, followed by the Boy-these-Walkers-are-cool phase. Then it seemed like everything I accumulated was less than 4.5 inches in barrel length as you can see from the photo. Now in the last three months I have bought five pistols with 7.5 inch barrels.

I think it is definitely an illness with the single difference being that nobody who is afflicted with it wants to get well from it.

How historically accurate are these revolvers? I thought all the revolvers back then had long cannons (around 8 inches.)

Colt would sell you whatever length you wanted but 7 1/2 was all that was standard for a C&B.

Short barrels are noisier, harder to shoot accurately and produce less power. Look good though.

I think long barrels look better except for the really long ones. In between the so called buntline barrels and short barrels I prefer the short ones.

Great looking pistols Doc! I'm SHOCKED though . . is that a mug of spirits in the background? :D

As always . . . your "rehabs' look wonderful!

My heart is a poundin!

Doc,
I love em!
I'm palpatating!
I think I am gonna... faint!
Seriuosly, I really respect you for being so skilled as to be able to do such nice work! Those are some really nice guns!
A sickness I dont want healing from! I'll just deal with it.
Thanks for offering tho!

To BBB,

The mug is filled (partially) with medicinal Killian's Red.

To Z,

Thanks for the compliment. The antler for the Remington grips came from member of this and another forum.

Agree. I don't like any of the 12 inch barrel pistols probably because of a bad experience I had with the only one I ever owned. That is not a good way to form an opinion but I can't help it.

Short barreled cap and ball revolver where not uncommon by any means. Most larger towns and cities had laws about open carry, so many people opted for concealed carry. That meant cut'em down.

Natchez Special, Mormon Avenger, Avenging Angel, names given to these shorties.

Interesting post.

I always thought the name "Avenging Angel" was a generic name for all revolvers in which the barrel was cut down essentially to the lug.

I guess my question would be, "What in the heck is the front sight for?!"

To those of you who own or have shot, such specimens, do you really need a fron sight?

Need a little help ZVP? Okay, I'll help you with your "short barrel" addiction Lol.

Here ya go. A short 5 inch barrel, .36 cal, 1851 Sheriff's model on Gunbroker with high bid so far at $57.00 with 3 days 18 hours left to go. It's a little dinged and scratched but not too bad. Says bore is lightly pitted but with the deep rifling shouldn't affect accuracy. It's a brass frame and I wouldn't bid more than $75.00 on it because you can get a better or even perfect (unfired sometimes too) condition brass frame 1851 all day long on Gunbroker for $100.00 and it isn't hard to cut the barrel and rammer down. I've done that before. But for one already a short barrel....that does save you the time of cutting one down and that's worth something.

So if you could pick this up for at or under $75.00 that wouldn't be bad.
