I always Intensly Disliked the Phrase Jack Booted Thugs" But Now...

Perhaps because I was once a law officer I always intensly disliked the phrase "Jack booted thugs" But now that I have seen Janet Reno's finest in black raid suits and body armor rmenacing an unarmed man and a six year old boy with Heckler & Koch MP5 submachine guns I guess it will become part of my every day vocabulary.

The only thing they lacked was the swastika arm bands. They can claim, "I was only doing my job" and "I was just following orders..." all they want, it's the same lines of bs the prison guards and SS goons used at Nuremburg and it didn't work then either.

" I guess it will become part of my every day vocabulary."

Let it become part of the liberal's vocabulary. We've gotten burned on that once too often.

Since you were once an LEO, I have to ask:
would you haved disobeyed an order from your superior you thought was wrong? Or would you
have carried out the assignment, and grumbled about it at home or with your fellow officers?

I'm not attacking you, but just trying to either certify or debunk the notion held by some on this forum that, if the fit hits the shan, LEO's will come to our defense.

Thanks,
Dick

But guys, we have to ask ourselves several questions.

And one of them is, Would LEO, or for that matter, ANY agent for a government agency follow orders without question, especially ones such as going house to house searching for firearms, ammo, cigarettes, alcohol, whatever.

At what point is that magic button pushed, where they (LEO) will simply refuse, and turn their backs OPENLY.
I suspect this is already being done by many LEO for things that they know are BS.
The agents for the Elian thing werea ll brought in from another area. Why was that? Don't they trust officers form the respective district to perform their nasty little jobs? I think more like they knew many would refuse, or be sick on the day something like that was done. Not to mention the officers being future targets of retribution(revenge) from angry sectors of society.

Also, it's a lot harder to try to get an off-the-record comment from someone, if you don't know who they were...

Best Regards,
Don

The most foolish mistake we could make would be to allow the subjected people to carry arms; history shows that all conquerers who have allowed their subjected people to carry arms have prepared their own fall.
Adolf Hitler

Unfortunately, I think that tomorrow's LEO's will not have been raised to think on their own, nor will they be able to place an individual's rights above the "good of society." The JBT's surprised me this time. There wasn't any week long demonization of the Gonzales family, then the destruction of same. They only did it this time "for the children." They didn't even compare them to Adolf Hitler. Maybe the Government's changing after all!

Monleyleg asks a fair question.

If the order given was c;early unconstitutional I believe I would have refused to carry it out. I believe my conduct would have been morally and legally justified by the oath I swore to "defend the constitution of the United States and the state constitution."

I am certainly glad that I never had to make that decsion, but if I had , well

"I swear to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemeis domestic or foreign WHOMSOEVER."

I think that the rising number of law enforcement officers, who by there very appearance, conjure up images of jack booted thugs in the minds of many people actually points to the growing distance of so many LEO's from their roots in any real community. In the past, most law enforcement was done by local police. State and Federal officers were rarely encountered in the lives of the average American. Local law enforcement would never dress in ways that negatively affected the people they were hired to serve.
Now, with the tremendous increase in Federal Law Enforcement, those local bonds and familiarity are increasingly being desolved. The guys you are seeing in the news these days don't look like your old police because they are not your old, familiar police types. Their attitudes, tactics and even thier very dress itself are cued by forces very far from our lives.
There are sure to be growing problems here. I am sure we will be treated to more of it.

I've always disliked the phrase "Jack Booted Thugs" too but now they've gone to a warmer, friendlier PC type of 'ops mission statement' I think I can live with them.

I don't expect young people today to have that deep abiding respect of the Constitution as written and intended to be used. Remember they are indoctrinated from a very early age that the Constitution was written a very long time a go and the needs of society have changed, blah, blah. This indictment applies to most who have grown up in the government schools of the eighties and nineties and is definitely not limited to the LEOs of the future. The future is here.

OH man! HS I about fell out of my chair when I saw that. HA HA HA. Where did you ever come up with that one?

Part of the problem is that LEO's invariably dress in all black, (or midnight blue) and have haircuts that make them look like skin heads or Timothy McVeigh. What ever happened to LEO's looking like respectable business people?

HS, I just love seeing a little kid having fun at Easter time. The obvious laughter on little Elians face when he spots the JBB is delightful. And the bemused look on the fisherman shows he knows whats coming next. I'll bet they all a lot fun hiding the eggs around the house and watching as Elian searched for them. There's nothing better than seeing this long tradition being carried on by the friendly visitors. I'm glad someone had enough forethought to have one of those "fun cameras" handy to catch the gaiety and laughter. A true Kodak moment.

1. LEO's will become more and more militant as time goes on.

2. The US vs Them attitude will coninue to fester.

3. The Government will be increasingly distrusting of it's subjects.

4. Taxes will be higher and higher.

5. Then you die.

Rome did not create a great empire by having meetings; they did it by killing all those who opposed them.

In the Elian snatch photo, the agent is clearly dressed in green, not black. Also, I think it's interesting that he's not wearing a mask.

My parents are very mild-mannered Christian people. Although staunch Republicans, they are very much of the "Law & Order" mainstream. There were no guns in my house growing up (they're not opposed to them, they just have an abiding faith in the "Good Guy's" ability to protect them). After my obligatory leftward swing in my early 20's, I pendulumed right back past them to the right. They don't get why I'm so outraged whenever the conversation turns to gun control/politics in general. Imagine my surprise when I caught them online yesterday and wished them a happy Easter and the following conversation ensued:

TamSlick: happy easter!
My Folks: happy Easter to you too
TamSlick: See the Elian news? I have never been so ashamed to be an American...
My Folks: Jack Booted Gestapo.
Now I know why Clinton wants to take our guns away.
TamSlick: Remember when refugees from Communist tyranny were welcomed as defectors?
My Folks: I think we had a Republican administration

Ladies and Gentlemen, these are people who never had a mean word to say during the CARTER administration, just murmurs of sincere disappointment. When you've managed to get Ward and June Cleaver talking like this, it's time to pack your Louis Vuitton "Dictator Edition" bags and look into Carribean retirement digs. I hear Cuba's nice this time of year...

Didn't anyone notice what insignia(s) was imprinted on the backs of the JBT's jackets?

They were, "INS" (Immigration and Naturalization Service), and "Border Patrol". Take a closer look at the scenes of the exit, and look at the the JBTs very closely. These were AMETUERS!!! I don't care what weapons they carried, these JBTs probably had NEVER done a raid before. They are stumbling over each other. One of the raid officers was a woman, who ran like a school girl.

This raid would have been a complete disaster if the occupants were armed...for the JBTs.

Paul Revere, that's the first thing I noticed about the video - these guys (& gals) were not trained shooters/assaulters. We're all lucky they didn't shoot anybody. Their lack of training was evident. I bet the pros like Marcinko were ROTFL when they saw this.

Tamara,
Thank you for sharing that. It somewhat eased the tense feeling I've had recently, at least temporarily.
