Hypothetical re standard cap mags and new bans

OK, I think this is very cool that mags marked "LEO only" are now legal to possess, particularly because, what if this scenario occurs: New, very similar ban passes at some point in the future (god forbid), and manufacturers commence to putting "LEO only" on new, post-new-ban mags, well whaddya know, Mr. gov't agent, of course these here mags aren't post-'05, they're 94-04 manufacture - have a nice day. Hmm, but that won't work because new mags under such a new hypothetical ban will surely be marked "LEO Only 2005 Ban" or some such, distinguishing them from 94-04 manufacture. Damn, thought I had something for a minute there....

I inquired about LEO only mags at my local store today (9/14) and they refused to sell them to me saying that the ATF told them TODAY that its still illegal to do so.????????????

Tell 'em to have the knucklehead inspector in their local office call DC and get the 411. Jeez.

Calling regional ATF offices and seeing how many different interpretations you can get on a given reg is a fun, humorous, and time-honored way of passing the afternoon for bored gun shoppe employees. :)

Sounds like something the Wall Street Journal did vis-a-vis the IRS and their double talk a few years back.

They send a gentleman and a lady, employees of theirs to the local IRS office, they were "husband and wife", along with a complete set of financial records, expenses, deductions, withholding statements, the whole schmeer. They asked for help completing their tax return.

WSJ did this, in each IRS region, I believe there are 8 or 9, same story, same financial data, same request, help us do our tax returns. They got help alright, they also got 8 or 9 tax returns completed, each significantly differrent from the other, despite the fact that the numbers were all exactly the same. They then wrote an article, or a series of articles about what they did, and what happened.

Naturally, IRS cried FOUL, but the evidence of their screw up was there, black on white, in and with the tax returns their "Help Desks" had done up. The question WSJ asked was essentially this. Given that we were dealing with federal income taxation, which is based on federal law, the U.S. Tax Code, which should be the same throughout the nation, how come the significant differences in the returns, which were all based on exactly the same data, the sameness of data was documented. Is the ATF any better than the IRS, seems not, except that the AFT has been known to shoot people, something that IRS usually refrains from doing, though they have seized property and bank accounts.

Noticed the following above:

Ding-dong, the ban is dead!

I got the following from J & G Sales today. I assume that they sent the same to their entire customer list, or at least those who indicated interest in e-mail notices. Prices for specific items listed look reasonable, if one wanted or needed these particular mazazines.

Dear J&G Customer,

As mentioned last week, there are numerous new items that have just arrived, keep reading to get all the good details.

As most of you know, the 1994 assault weapon and hi-cap mag ban has ended. We are now offering many types of factory full capacity magazines for Glock, Beretta, Ruger, and S&W at a special sale of $19.95 each. These are Law Enforcement Only marked mags, but now are unrestricted and may be owned by individuals. Many are new, some are VG. Check them out here http://www.jgsales.com/jgcloseouts.html

I have been informed by the agent that hangs out behind the local 7-11 that any new bans will require the mags to be marked
LEO Only
Part Deux

I am waiting for the first recorded case where a peace officer or federal agent "busts" someone for having such an item. ;)

Think a big fat FALSE ARREST suit would stand, or would there somehow come to be a case where IMMUNITY reigned supreme? After all, the law would have been operating on a combination pof "good faith" plus "stupidity", for I woiuldn't think that "ignorance" would apply, given all the publicity. Of course, I would still put it that 2 + 2 = 4, but then I'm terribly old fashioned..
