hypothetical question on SS

Suppose-----------
I live in the southwest, am a middle-aged successful businessman (owner and operator) of a heavy construction business. I own an M1-A and have 2000+ rounds of loaded ammo. I have a concealed carry permit and carry a 1911-A1 24/7. I shoot a single shot 50 BMG on my own 1000 yd range at the back of the house. House is 2 story with an observation deck on top and is about 175 yds from a major highway. Because of my company, I have legal access to a variety of high explosives. My local county sheriff knows me well as a solid, law abiding citizen. Have a 20 yr old married daughter and a 16 yr old son. Son, daughter and son-in-law often join me for a shoot on my range. All are law abiding.

Now we hear the president will be passing by in a motorcade in front of our house. We intend to sit on the observation deck and watch.

Question: What is the secret service LIKELY to do AND what CAN they LEGALLY do to see that none of us launch one in the direction of the motorcade given no record or bad behavior of any sort?

They can point their rifles in your direction and thats about it. I wouldnt suggest any quick movements.

When Gorbachev visited Minneapolis a number of years ago, the Secret Service started going door to door along the planned route of his motorcade, telling people to stay off their porches and balconies, keep their windows closed and drapes drawn, etc.

The result was that MORE windows were open, MORE people were on their balconies, and MORE protest banners were in evidence than there would have been otherwise. The general reaction to the SS was "WTF?!?! A commie comes to visit, and I'M imprisoned in my own house? Not likely!" I never heard of any actual threats, but a popular theme among the protestors was a demand that Gorby free the Baltic Nations, somthing the then-democRAT governor found embarassing.

So, as long as ALL you're doing is watching from your deck, the ONLY legal thing they can do is . . . watch back. (I assume you know that waving your rifles around on your observation deck isn't a good idea at ANY time. "Man on rooftop with a rifle" will cause alarm, regardless of whether or not Willie is passing by. )

HI! The secret service is a branch of the treasury department it is not covered by the third amendment.

They may ask that you don't sit up there. They may just watch you, maybe through a scope. I know they have in the past asked people to not use balconys that face a podium or go onto a rooftop of buildings that overlooks the place a guarded person will be speaking at. Exactly how exstensive the preps are for a motorcade I do not know.

I am sure your message has been noticed by someone, somewhere for its use of certain words in one message. I leave it to you to figure what words.

When will this occur and do tell us what, if anything, happens.

I gotta type faster. I started when there were only three replies.:D

Well, I'm very sorry that I missed my chance - Wild Bill's motorcade went down a highway near my home. They had the whole darn thing blocked off, etc., and all I needed to do was walk out by the bridge, turn around, and drop trou. And I was worried about a measly little indecent exposure arrest...
