HWS mounted on side of firearm in conjunction with scope?

I think I've seen this before on some rifles online. Can this be done? i\If so how practical/accurate is it? Any resources I can reference if it is possible? Wanting some type of Holographic sight in conjunction with traditionally mounted scope.

Thanks.

I think it is usually done as a joke. The only combo that would work (that I can think of) is the ACOG/Doctor Optic where the doctor optic micro red dot sits on top of the ACOG.

I would rather pick one or the other. Both is sort of ridiculous. Try getting a good firing position with a side-mounted sight. If you must have both, why not get an EOtech and the 3x magnifier that can be flipped to the side when not needed?

I've seen variable power scopes mounted in a traditional manor on top of the AR and smaller red dots (ie docter or jpoint) mounted at a 45 deg angle on the front handguard- it actually feels rather comfortable to tip the gun slightly so that the smaller red dot comes into line with your eye for close quarters work,(if you are right handed, small red dot on right-left handed on left side) and to line back up on the variable power scope for distance work-
I have thought about doing this to mine but have not as of yet-these things get expensive!!!
