The National News Media: F They are still talking about Katrina. Guess East Texas didnt have enough whiners and dead The County Judges/ Mayors took a stance and where consistent in doing things. Guess there wasnt any Drama to report...lol
FEMA : A+ No complaints here..a little sluggish at first but ramped up to speed quickly. Just signed up for my Blu Roof Today. Going to get up there after the adjuster comes by today and do some temporary patching. The FEMA folks here quickly took to the local media to tell folks how to get help.
Entergy: A++++++++ A big shout out to the Entergy Crews and those from other states/cities. Ya done good and are kicking a** and taking names. As of now 75% of the grid is up and running. Also wisely availed themselves of the local media to keep people informed.
State/County/Local Government: B + Took some unpopular stances in some locations but stuck to thier guns. Counties need to learn to play well together at the beggining. There was some friction at first between them but all is good now.
Evacuation Routes: C- Need to plan better 21 hours to make a 4 hour drive needs improvement. WE got our call at 2:00 pm on Thursday to evacuate form the county. I can see the evacuation route from my house and traffic was at a standstill....... The Temp was over 100 and my Mother in Law couldnt have taken the delay in traffic. When the time came we were advised to stay in place for the storm. Going straight north on the route sucked because if you did the storm followed the evacuation route.....
The hospitals/nursing home seemed to get thier act together on evacuating folks. However my Aunt was in a nursing home and had to be evacuated Thursday. I dont know the whole story yet, but she passed away Wed Morning.
Red Cross: A ++++ for the grunts handing out supplies and stuff and serving Joe Sixpack. Ya doing good.
Red Cross Managment: where are you? So far they seem to have made little or no effort to make themselves available to the local media to get out info.
Maybe they were on the SS Minnow with Gilligan and the Skipper
Local Media for my area: The guys at KLVI Radio are Da Man. While every other media putlet evacuated or bit the dust they were there through the storm and are still trucking......getting the info out A+++++++++++++
Some will say you should evacuated earlier...... Well as a DoD Employee I had certain responsibilites and the wife had some too. When we were asked to evacuate we tried to do so only to find a horrendus traffic jam. By the time we were able too The Gov said to ride it out and dont get on the roads...
no Gas and still delays.
I can assure you I will not wait for the officials next time...LOL. Take some vacation time and leave early early.
Listening to 90 to 100 mph winds for 8-10 hours aint no fun . The next morning I went to check on my house...roads were blocked by trees..walking was in order. On the way backs folks started popping out with chain saws and started clearing. I helped with the clearing on the way back to my Mother in Laws. The citizens were not waiting to be cut out.... The next door neighbor came back to see what his damge was. We split what ice we had with him and I drew him up 25 gals of water from what I had drawn up.
A tree in his yard had pulled up his waterline....Luckily I had some PVC Cement had never been opened up...and some pipe he could use. Still didnt have any pressure However my Mother in Law is at the bottom of the hill so I was able to draw water and help him. Nieghbor helping neighbor.. I didnt have much but whatever I had the other guy could count on getting half if he needed it.
Within a few hours with the assitance of the city and citizens paths had been cut so you could have passable roads
I guess our motto was Git er Done....here
