Hunting & Shooting with your Dog

I hope this in the right section, but im sure there are many of you who go hunting for birds and bring your dog with you or shoot with your dog around. My dog loves to go to the range with me cause its a huge wooded area that he can run around in (if im the only one there that it). My question is does anyone know how bad it might be for a dogs hearing to be shooting around? I don't want to blow my dogs ears out from the gun shots since there hearing is so sensitive. I like having him come with me, but i dont want to hurt him either.

See a Vet !!

I suspect it could be a genuine concern as I know that a dog's hearing can go bad. I've hunted behind a number of dogs but never seen the results of shooting close to one over a period of time. If it were my dog, I'd get some input from a Veternarian. Good luck and I'm glad to see that you value your dog. .. ;)

Be Safe !!!

I'm certainly no vet, but I've read that gunshots can permanently damage a dogs hearing just like a human's - perhaps even faster. Do your dog a favor and keep him far enough away from the firing line to avoid damage.

i was shooting just a .22LR around the area of him cause i figured it would be the most quiet gun i have. I think for his sake, ill just shy away from shooting around him as much i can so he doesn't go deaf, id feel horrible if he did. Ill have to do some more research as well
