location

I am in decater.. but will travel anywhere that is fun...
I am shooting a ar10

would like to hunt with the .22 as well

I hunt around the Westpoint lake area, north and south of Lafette, I think that is how you spell it. Also north of Lannett. Have hunted spring turkey and deer season. Lots of funny looking squirrels by Midwest standards. Fishing is great as well. If you find a nice stand, on a dike by a mooshiners still, it's mine. .... ;)

The deer are bigger than I first anticipated but are really just your average Midwest size. Took a couple to a local taxiderm and saw some of his mounts. There were no monsters but some very nice looking deer. What I like, is the great population and how many you can take. We never got skunked.

Be Safe !!!

Living near Decatur, your closest management area is Black Warrior, located within the Bankhead National Forrest. The Black Warrior management area is noted for producing at least one "trophy" buck per year, and usually a few more than that. Also, there are wild piggies there. Terrain is rather steep, but should be no problem if you're in fairly decent physical condition. Also, within the Sipsey Wilderness Area of the WMA, no motorized vehicles, of any kind, are allowed.

AR-10's are legal, just make sure the magazine holds no more than 10 rounds, or you're in violation of the law.

From Bama, kinda

I spent about 6 years in Wilmer/Mobile area before I joined. How is the Hog hunting in the Mobile bay/Eastern shore area?

HUNTED THE BLACK BELT AREA AROUND SELMA A FEW YEARS AGO. iT'S CALLED THE BLACK BELT BECAUSE OF THE SOIL IN THE FLOOD PLANE OF THE RIVER.

DEER ARE BIG. AND IF YOU ARE IN THE LOWER PORTION OF IT WHAT YOU WILL FIND IS THAT THE RUT IS IN THE SECOND WEEK OF JANUARY JUST AS IT IS IN WEST FLORIDA. VERY ODD THE WAY THAT WORKS.

WE WENT IN MOVEMBER AND GOT A COUPLE OF SMALL HORNED BUT BIG BODIED DEER OF PRIVATE LAND. WHEN WE STOPED IN A TAXIDERMY SHOP TO LOOK AT SOME OF THE LOCAL MOUNTS BEING WORKED ON WHAT STRUCK US WAS THAT THE DATE OF HARVEST ON THE MAJORITY OF THE BIG HEADS COINSIDED WITH THE JANUARY RUT......TOOK THAT AS PROOF OF THE RUT DATES.

big

Black Warrior and Bankhead NF are big areas. I used to turkey hunt there when the season opened earlier, than here in my county. Now they open the same and I don't make the trip. You could hunt it for years and not see all of it.

Every darn hollow had signs of old stills!!!!!

The hogs are supposed to be bad in some areas, but the info I have says they range awfully and are hard to get on consistently.

Alabama is known for deer and turkey, the state is in the top 5 (3?) in population #'s. We have a LONG deer season and the limits are VERY generous. Like 100 days+ and an antlerless deer a day! If your a bowhunter the mgmt areas can offer some great, undisturbed hunts. Public land gun hunts can get a bit "interesting" in the accessible areas.

Membership in a lease or club is common, I just paid my dues yesterday.
