"Hunters & Sportsmen" - code words

Why do I always cringe when I hear that ? I get the feeling that Gore's idea of "hunters & sportsmen" is a bunch of middle-aged men in theor cleaned & pressed "outfits", in a carpeted duck blind or sporting clays stand, with $5000 O/U shotguns ? (no offense to you folks who fit this description :D)

I get the sneaking suspicion that recreational shooters, plinkers, paper punchers are not the "sportmen" Al is referring to.

Last night he expanded his "big tent" to include "homeowners". Ain't that sweet. I guess I can own a gun now, since Prince Albert says I can. (Just don't take it outside your home !!!)

This is the same philosophy they use with taxes, and everything else. They subjugate everyone, then give "rights" on a case by case basis. Bush on the other hand, beleives in wholesale tax cuts, and wholesale freedom, which would only be rescinded on an exception basis.

It's not a "right" if I have to say "Mother, may I?".

You ever notice that Gore doesn't include "Self-defense" as a "legitimate" reason to own firearms?

Neither does HCI for that matter and that's because the two things they want to ban most at the moment are semi-automatic firearms and handguns.

Gore is trying to divide and conquer gun owners. Its only by working together that we can stay united and make sure that the less politically active among us are aware of the consequences of Gore's proposals.

Sure, it's right there in the second amendment: A well regulated forestry program being a benefit to the self-esteem of inner city kids everywhere, the right of hunters and sportsmen to pursue their recreational pursuits shall not be infringed except by forcing them to purchase a liscense to help the state manage its wildlife.

2nd Article.

Every anti politician panders to the hunters, many of whom only pick up a gun once a year. It sounds innocuous. When a pol talks to me about guns, anything beyond "I believe in the Second Amendment..." is bull. Qualifiers don't count.

Would that we could have someone so straightforward on the highest ticket.

I just watched a half-hour show called "Kids Pick the President" on Nickelodeon. (All you high-brows can quit laughing now. I've got a kid, so I've got an excuse.) ;)

The show was hosted by Linda Ellerbee and they asked both candidates two questions about guns. Actually the first one was about how to keep schools safe, but both men ended up talking about guns. I think knives are probably more of an everyday problem in schools than guns.

Anyway, algore used his Hunters, Sportsmen and Homeowners line again. It really stood out to me and made me wonder about people who live in apartments. HUD apartments. They're not homeowners, are they?

This is also a very shrewd way for algore to split the gun owners vote. A majority of gun owners will probably believe that he's not talking about them when he says he wants to take away people's rights to keep and bear arms. They'll end up voting for him, just like their union or church or friends tell them to. :(

What got me is that Bush didn't score a slam dunk either. He talked about trigger locks and keeping guns out of schools, like they do in Texas. What I wouldn't have given for him to say: Stop. Don't Touch. Walk Away. Tell an Adult.

Anyone else got the cajones to admit to watching this too?

Gore mentioning "homeowners" strikes me as meaning "sure you can own one, but it has to stay in the home - and that means unloaded and locked up. CCW is unacceptable."

The reason you don't hear Bush defend gun owners rights is because he doesn't give a shi#. Politicians are dirty lying bastards. Just pick the one that lies the least. I feel bad for those people that actually believe Bush will change things if he gets elected.
Vote Libertarian
At least you know they want smaller government.
Sheesh.
I am sick of these two s**theads.

I don't believe VP Gore. Remember how the Clinton Gore Justice Dept. has argued against citizens owning guns. "I am informed, however, that counsel for the United States in United States v. Emerson, Assistant United States Attorney William Mateja, did indeed take the position that the Second Amendment does not extend an individual right to keep and bear arms." This is a quote from the Solicitor General of the US Justice dept. I copied from http://www.nraila.org/research/20000901-AntiGunGroups-001.shtml

"Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain that build it:
except the Lord guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain." (Psalm 127:1)

The Second Amendment rights have not kept pace with the First.

"Freedom is given to the human conditionally, in the assumption of his constant religious responsibility."
(Alexander Solzhenitzyn)

Sportsmen, hunters, etc. and their silence when black rifles and handguns are banned is vital to gun control.

All this about 80 million gunowners is crap. Most of them have a forgotten revolver in a drawer or hunting rifle, and really don't give a cra*.

You think anyone who hunts or skeet shoots (only) gives a crap when Klint/gore goes on TV and talks about assault weapons?

They've said it - the GCA of 68 pretty much said it with the import bans. . .

"You are not allowed to own guns, any guns. But we will make exceptions for the most commonly used guns so as not to pi** off a large number of people".

Just look at destructive device: Anything over 50 cal. Of course, there's a lot of shotguns out there, so we'll make an exception for them. It would have been 60 cal if there were a lot of people with 60cal rifles.

I watched part of it also. Two of my kids asked me some questions, basically who I was going to vote for, and I told them who and why.

In addition, I have an Eddie Eagle tape for the four year old, and I take the older ones to the range and teach them how to shoot.

TV is a problem, but there are ways to combat it.

Even if Al Gore and his minions say they want to maintain the right for hunters and sportsmen, you better be careful. You can hunt and shoot "sporting" clays at a govt. approved club, where your guns would remain locked up until you "need" them. For homeowners, look out. As someone mentioned earlier, if you rent or live in HUD, you are not included in Al Gores world. Also, homeowners may have firearms if they are locked up, broken down, etc. similar to Wash. DC.
If the hunters and sportsmen, of which I am both don't join the fight pretty soon, they'll be right with the rest of us crying about our loss of rights. I won't have much sympathy for those who wouldn't join in the cause.
