Just back from the range.

My son shot a 2" group at 100 yds with his Marlin
(30-30 Hornady Leverevolution).

I shot a perfect 1" equilateral triangle (.30-06 165 grain) with my old Model 70.

Neither of us will be adjusting our scopes. I figure his imprecision is mostly him - not his scope. I figure my 1" grouping is pretty dang good with today's 25 mph cross-winds.

Any suggestions for him? This is his first elk season.

I just got back from the Range also. 1948 Marlin 336, LeverEvolution 160 gr. 1.5' group at 100 yrds. A 4x Burris scope. Good for me. It was my father's gun. The first time I shot it was about 1962 when I was 10yrs old. Kicked like a mule! The quality of this 1948 Marlin is amazing! I want one of their 45/70's, but cant get by the difference in quality. GREAT gun for your son. Thank god for for dads like you, he did very well !

Ps.
I did almost as good with my model 70 (300 mag), but only 1.5". The recoil takes a toll, as does the $2.50 per round for the Barnes ammo I bought.

Actually 2 inch at 100 yds with a lever gun ain't nothing to be ashamed of,,, just keep practicing until he can confidently make that shot.;)
