Hungarian Golashes

I'm a bit confused. I read here and on the FEG forum, and Makarovdotcom, about the FEG PA- 63. It's hundred pound DA trigger-pull, problems feeding it JHP, and the nasty recoil, and I'm beginning to think I'm really as odd as *She* thinks I am. I bought a PA63, fell in love with it, and when I found there is little/no "support" for the thing, bought another so if necessary I can cannibalize parts from one to keep the other in operation. I've shot Norinco, S&B, Federal, and Wolf ammo thru it. Both FMJ and JHP and never had a feed problem with any of it. According to my diary, I bought it in August and have fired 800 rounds thru it with nary a problem. Once I got used to it, that D/A trigger pull it hasn't bothered me. IMO, compared to my Mak the Hungarian is like shooting a .22. The last round out of the box is as easy shooting as the first. I'm setting here looking at last Sunday's target. Since I discovered the Joys of Makarov, I wanted to see just what the FEG could do, so I ran the target out to 30 yards. I fired 5 rounds of Federal "Classic" JHP and then switched to S&B FMJ. There are 39 holes in the 9 and 10 ring, and then just for the **** of it, I fired two magazines at the "head" of the silhouette. There are 16 holes in the "head." I am by no stretch of the imagination a good shot with a pistol, but the PA is a great little point and click gun. I did dress up the front sight with Testor's White Plastic Model Enamel, but other than that--strictly stock. I have very little experience with hand-guns. I mis-sent my youth on Big-Bore and skeet, so I get confused when I read the "experts" knocking the PA63, and here I am thinking it's the greatest thing since Luke's Light Saber. All these shootists can't be wrong, so it must be me--there's something about the PA63 I fail to understand I guess. I'm learning to really like the Mak, but like the cop said in the Sherlock Holmes story; "as long as I have my trousers, I have a pocket, and as long as I have a pocket, I have something in it." Well, what will be in my pocket, is a PA-63.

I had one. It kicked my ass. Recoil stung like a wasp (my main gun is a 1911). DA pull impossible. JHP FTFs.

Sounds like you got a winner.

Dremel time

I too sing the praises of FEG. Mine is an SMC-380, the all black PPK-style .380.

I had a little feeding trouble until I smoothed the feed ramp area with a stone and a Drememl polisher. Since then it shoots reliably and more accurately (for me) than either of my Colt .380s.

Regards.

Heck of a value.

I liked shooting my SMC-380 so much that I bought the pistol back from the friend I'd sold it to. It serves no useful purpose in my arsenal (such as it is) except for having fun. It's reliable enough to use as a carry gun (and use it thusly I have); I just would rather carry something with more oomph than a .380.

Eric--my "Home Town" is Alamogordo, and remembering Albuqurque and Santa Fe--I'd carry a 12 bore pump, a pair of .45s and a squad of Marines for back-up. Just picking--they are both beautiful cities--if you like cities.

Hi Tom,

Well, I know what you mean. I definitely used to spend time in some not-so-nice areas. Nowadays I live in a bona fide good area and rarely go anywhere too creepy. When I do find myself heading to a shady area, I like to bring along something more than a .380!

I'll have some tamales with red chile for you tonight. You're a long way from home, hombre!
cheers, erich

Nothing but praise for my Pa-63 in 380.

I have story upon story about mine do a search on them and you'll see.

Never had a jam but I DID wipe the floorplate off the bottom of a mag while loading it.. ended up with a handfull of bullets and a spring

Oh and I paint my front sight with blaze orange enamel.

Great bargain gun.

PA63 - Here in hungary no one would buy a PA63. :) Only police and mililtary officers carry it, but these days they are switching to the FEG P9R model (SW M59 copy)...

IMHO the PA63 is a very accurate pistol, very concealable with the flat grip panels, and (mostly) reliable with FMJ, but that's the only positive thing I can say about it.

Goulash in hungarian is Gulyás :D

Gulyás?

And in Eugene Oregon, gulyás is "Good eat'n." :) I read all the pros and cons of the FEG PA-63 and the final result is--I pray God it will never come to it, but I have enough faith and confidence in the pistol, and I am becoming proficient enough in its use, that I'm fairly sure that I can do unto others as others may wish to do unto me--but do it first. As I said, I've fired 800 rounds through it as of last Sunday and have not had a single malfunction. I'd rather have my PA63 than a new Sig or Glock--until somebody decides to give me a new Sig or Glock.
