HUD BUDGET CUTS FRUSTRATE MAYORS AND ADMINISTRATION

U.S. Housing and Urban Development, Secretary Andrew Cuomo and members of the U.S. Conference of Mayors (USCM) took the House and Senate Appropriations Committees to task for reducing HUD's proposed fiscal year 2001 budget. The administration wanted to increase HUD's budget by $6 billion in fiscal year 2001 to $32.1 billion. According to Cuomo, the House version of HUD's budget is $2.5 billion less than the President's request and includes no new housing vouchers; the Senate bill cuts $1.8 billion from the request.

This ought to take a little wind out of their sails.

Notice that this "cut" isn't a cut in their current funding at all, it is a decrease in the amount of increase that they asked for.

Yet another example of "word-smithing" by the liberal media.
