Hey all,

I am packing my bags and moving to Augusta. I will be working for MIB at the Savannah River Nuke Site.

Any thoughts about the area?

Welcome to the land of the free and the home of the heavily armed! Georgia is a GREAT state for gun owners. We were a "shall issue" state for years before Florida and those other states started thiking about it. With the exception of Atlanta, even Democrats are expected to like guns here.
We have preemption and you do not even need a permit to carry a loaded handgun in your car. As I said we are a "shall issue" state and you can carry any handgun you want with your permit. www.gssa.com

I hope you don't mind the heat and humidity down this way. Big change from where you are. Friendly country, though.

Welcome to Georgia! Savannah's a beautiful place. If you love good fresh sea food, you've chosen the right spot. When you get here be sure and join Citizens for Safe Government...... The only no compromise Gun Org in the state. And also be sure to join the Ga-Rkba discussion list. Contact me if you want any more info on either.

I've been in the Pike's Peak area a time or two, and around coastal areas a lot, so I figure you're gonna enjoy everything except the humidity in the summer, and all those little creepy-crawly insects you haven't seen for a while. In Florida, they call 'em "Palmetto Bugs". They look like trophy-sized roaches, and the can fly. Big, ugly suckers.

And the guh-nats and skeeters. The only reason there's a deer herd is the State Game Dept. has spray planes going around every evening, spraying heavily with "Off" so the skeeters don't suck 'em dry during the night.

Guh-nats are attracted to ear wax and sweat. I haven't heard that they carry infectious diseases, though.

I'll let some Savannah-area locals explain about water-moccasins.

hube1236,

When you get settled in, give me an email. We have a great little private outdoor range in Fort Valley with covered shooting positions. Must be an hour and a half from Augusta, but we can shoot all you want.

Hube1236,

Welcome to Georgia. I'm at the opposite end of the state along I-20. Maybe we can use the occasion of your moving here as a good excuse to organize the next Georgia TFL get together. :)

I had this great reply andhit "clear fields" instead of submit. Damn.

I move to Colorado 14 mos ago from New Orleans and am looking forward to being back in the South. I have my bikes (road and mtn)all tuned up and ready to role at a 1000 feet instead of 6000 - 10000 ft. My wife really wants Savannah, but jobs are where jobs are.

Anybody wanna go Palmetto Bug Hunting? I only have a handgun right now, but a few months at the new salary i could get a 50 bmg and hunt them down. If they are as big as they were in NOLA, I am going to have to get a chest freezer to keep the meat fresh....
