I sold my P99-QA for a little more than I paid for it.

I like what I've read about the HS 2000 and the TZ-99

Each has features I like and both have received favorable write ups

Please comment on either or both guns.

I may buy one or both

Thanks

I have the hs 2000. It is very reliable with my handloads. It has a nice trigger and is very accurate. On the down side some people on the hs forum have reported their slides have developed signs of rust if they don't take proper care of them(oiled up). Another option for about $50 more is the cz75b military. Mine is extremely accurate, well made and the polymer finish seems to hold up very well. Good luck on your decision. Mark

I have checked out the TZ-99, here is what I found in talking with owners.

I talked to/watched shoot 3 TZ-99 owners at the range. The guns appear fairly accurate, one fella was getting excellent groups with his. They reported no problems with jams. All were very happy, no plans to sell theres.

One fella, the good shooter, was a fairly experianced shooter, and this was his favorite gun over several other nice guns he owns.

Over all I think this might be one of the best deals going. I would have one if not for the lack of $$$ at the moment.

Oh, and as you pobably know, these take S&W magazines, so supply should not be a problem.

I own a HS2000 and recommend it highly. I keep it clean and oiled, so I haven't experienced rust.

It's light weight, yet it shoots soft and accurately with +P ammo. It's also reliable.

The HS-2000 is supposed to be a pretty decent gun for the money and the TZ-99 probably shoots okay but where are you gonna get parts for em if you need em? For my money I`d go with a CZ-75 Mil. (and in fact I did!). It`s an excellent, battle proven design with good company support. For another $45 or so you get a better gun with outrageous accuracy and 1 factory hi cap in addition to a Klinton mag. If you have to stick to the $300 limit the CZ-40B can be found that cheap if you look hard and although it`s not a 9mm it is a fine gun with CZ heritage behind it. Marcus

I am not completely familiar with the TZ99, but the HS2000 looks like it is going to replace the CZ75 for the best deal in a quality pistol. It even uses the readily available Beretta 92 magazine so full caps are out there. If you prefer cocked and locked carry go ahead and splurg the extra dollars for a CZ as another poster suggested, it is a proven gun.

If you are deada set on one of the ones listed, any interest in a Hi Power clone? They can be found for less that $300.

Just another option to mill over.

I have a hs2000. Bought it for the same reason as you, wanted a cheap 9mm plinker. Have put 150 rnds of Greek 124gr through it so far without any problems. Shoots good and seems well made. The trigger for a DAO was pretty good too. The hs2000 seems to have been accepted well so far so finding parts down the road for it probably won't be a big deal. I haven't had any problems with rust. Don't think it is a problem as long as basic care is applied to the pistol. I also like the grip, it is quite good.

The only thing that is weird about the pistol is that the extractor is sort of like that on a 1911. Its not spring actuated, but works based on the elasticity of the steel. Don't know if this would ever be a problem down the road. After 150 rnds, I have also noticed some odd sort of wear on the outside of the barrel where it locks up to the slide. There seems to be a lot more wear here than would be normal, at least more than I have seen on any of my other pistols. There is a groove where it locks up and there are dings in the barrel were the slide recoils backward. They are not large and I haven't heard of anyone having problems related to this phenomenon. Just seems like the barrel steel might be a little soft. Don't think it is a big enough deal to affect reliability or accuracy.

As far as high caps go, I found the s&w 59 series mags to fit the best in the gun. You will have to modify the mags though, a hole needs to be drilled in the front and filed to fit the mag catch. The follower step that engages the slide stop will also have to be cut down some so that the slide won't lock back on the second to last round. Beretta mags will also need to have the mag catch drilled into the front. This can be a pain, but isn't very hard to do, just buy some promag mags for $15 and go at it. As far as the TZ99 goes, you can buy factory high caps for them for about $30. This would be much easier but will cost more.

The TZ has a aluminum frame and doesn't have a accesory rail. The HS is rated for +P+ ammo, not sure about the TZ. Both would be fine buys, just a matter of tastes I suppose.

I have the HS2000 and love it. Only about 150 rounds through it but not problems at all and accuracy if pretty good. If will be better once I get used to shooting it. It is my first auto and takes some getting used to. From everything I have read and heard, the gun will last if you take care of it. You can also get it coated with gun kote for about $110 or so and never have to worry about rust or anything.

my 2nd gen HS has 600 rounds through it without any cleaning except running a brush through the barrel and slight oiling of the slide rails. With all this, it's had one stovepipe with 3D reloads which were Winchester white box cases.

It's also fed S&B, Blazer CCI, UMC, without hiccups. The thing definately shoots better than me, but then that's not saying much.

CZ Connection has the CZ 75B 9mm for $299 with one ten round magazine. The CZ 75B blows either of the two guns you listed away. I'd suggest calling Phil and getting a CZ 75B while he still has this price on it. You will not find a better pistol for $300, in my opinion. I LOVE mine!

You can't go wrong with the HS2000. Just bought mine a few weeks ago with my "W" tax refund check. Great accuracy and very reliable. I CCW'd it all day yesterday in my SOB (small of back) holster, and I didn't know it was even there. I also like the way it looks. Very nice lines. There is a forum dedicated to the HS200 - http://www.hs2000talk.com

The Hi-Cap Berreta mags will work with a slight modification to the hole for the mag release. I have heard that Sig sights will fit it also. I'm going to investigate this claim because I want some night sights.

The only thing I needed to make my HS more comfortable is a slip-on Pachmayr grip that I bought for $8 when I got the gun. The ones made for Glock work well. See attachment. It now fits like a glove.

so far the HS2000 is on it's 3rd generation. AFAIK, they are all mechanically the same and pretty easy to identify the differences.

First gen lacks the accessory rail.

Second gen is introduced with the rail.

Third gen has serrations on the front of the slide.

Hello from North Texas Jesse

I called the factory and then purused the web site for the low down. The isssue I have is I called RSR, the wholesaler and they are out until further notice. Does anyone know of any dealers in North Texas with inventory of the third generation 9mm versions? CTD is out cold. I might even consider Houston since I am a traveling salesman and Hou, Tx is in my territory.

What;s a good price for this weapon? Also, the web site makes no mention of investment-cast slides fwiw.

Thanks

Options:

The HS-2000s are impressing a lot of people including the gun rental guys and they know what can happen to guns.

Avoid the TZ-99. As Marcus stated, they will have parts, service, and warranty issues. Tressitu of SA doesn't appear on solid ground and their production is sporadic. I mean maybe one or two runs a year. Haven't seen a TZ-99 in a year and they were all over the place then. Dropped off the distributor's offerings. Bad sign.

OR

Used Kahr K-9s and CZs can be had for about $375.

OR

Buy a used or factory refurbished Glock 19 for $395 with a pair of hi caps, or a police trade in Sig. But don't just buy a gun because you have the money.

RECOMMENDATION:

I'd wait another month and buy the gun I really want. Second best is only good when you're building a sports team but not when it comes to guns and spouses.

Greetings Will

I got mine from Joseph Galibois from auctionarms.com. Looks like this is the only one at the moment, and at a very reasonable price. That's actually $10 less than I paid for my 2nd gen (which are supposed to be rarer), this one's a 3rd gen.

This was the first time I bought a gun over the internet and he was very helpful. My FFL was 10 bucks so it came out to a tad under 300 once it was in my hands. The one store that I've checked wants a ridiculous amount, somewhere near the $400 range.

G'luck
