HR Sportsman questions

I have an HR Sportsman .22 with serial number starting with AA. Can anyone help me find a rear sight blade for this gun? Also, does this gun have a safety mechanism? I can't figure it out, maybe I'm stupid or something.

As a general rule, revolvers don't have safeties. They are not carried in a cocked condition like auto loaders often are, and don't need a safety. When not cocked, revolvers take a considerable trigger pull, normally in the over ten pound range, which provides for safety. This doesn't stop action writers from referring to the safety on a revolver, or the spare magazines, either.
Hopefully, someone can help with your first question.

I have an H&R Sportsman 999. You can order parts from NUMRICH online. I would suggest that you adjust your rear sight and then loctite it to avoid losing it again. Great, fun shooting revolver. I bought mine new in the 70's and still shoot it quie often.

I have a Ruger .22 and a Colt .357 that both lock when you pull the hammer back part way which seems like some sort of safety if the gun was loaded. Those are both single action and the H&R is double. I could almost use the site from the Ruger but looks like the HR one is thicker.

The rear sight worked loose all the time on the H&R 999 that I owned. It was a pain in the butt to say the least. The revolver had timing issues which I didn't know anything about at the time.
