Kindly note that I am asking you to SUPPORT H.R. 1703 "Second Amendment Protection Act of 2005". This bill helps reverse many laws and regulations that ignored what the U.S. Constitution actually SAYS. As you know, when our Founding Fathers wrote about the 'right to bear arms', they were not talking about the right to bear "sporting goods".

Just as freedom of speech includes an individual's use of tools such as Television, Internet and Radio; The RIGHT to bear arms isn't restricted to 1700's era muskets. It is a timeless concept that has as much value today as it did 229 years ago.

I support the restoration of the Second Amendment. H.R. 1703 serves the people of the United States and the Constitution. Please urge your colleagues on the Judiciary, Ways & Means, and the Subcommittee on the Constitution to support this bill and move it to passage.

Respectfully,

{my name and address}

[this was the result of the work of several AR15.com posters.

Mail the heads of the appropriate committees. Write the NRA-ILA.

Keep the fire burning.

I like it.

Peter Defazio (weird old bird and out of the closet socialist but still is more of a Repub then a Demo when it comes to firearm issues) would probably vote for it but all the rest, including the RINO's would vote against it.

But, I will send it off anyway. Thanks :).

Chet Edwards got where he is by standing up for the military. Since Fort Hood is now not in his district (thank you Governor Perry!), maybe now is the time to vote him out of office for someone who represents real Texas values, not 200,000+ military and DOD folks who want to have job security. (Don't look at me, I didn't vote for him in the three elections he was in since I got here.)

The only people who can chnage anything on this at the moment are the committee heads and the NRA, nobody else.

http://judiciary.house.gov/CommitteeMember.aspx?id=1 <- this is the contact information of Hon. F. James Sensenbrenner, Jr, [R-Wis]. He is the chairman of the Committee on the judiciary.

http://billthomas.house.gov/Contact.asp <- contacting Bill Thomas, chairman of the committee of Ways and Means.

NRA-ILA -https://secure.nraila.org/Contact.aspx

Also, you may call them on the Grassroots Hotline - 800-392-8683 .

Call all three.

MB & others, here is their response to your letter - given that it came back by email less than a day later, I'd guess it's a canned response being shot out to everyone sending that message to them:

Though the NRA-ILA has limited resources, we are doing our best to have the biggest impact. Right now that means we must pass HR 800, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. If that doesn't pass, our manufacturers and dealers will be sued out of business and we'll all be in a world of hurt. We are focusing our lobbying efforts on attainable and necessary legislation and then we'll move on to our second tier of legislation. While HR 1703 is a good bill, it will not come out of committee no matter how hard we lobby on the bill. There are other politics in play regarding the bill sponsor in which the NRA plays no role at all. Unfortunately, that means Congressman Paul is at the mercy of the committee and it's chairman. Someday we'll be able to pass similar legislation, but right now we have to make sure the firearm industry is not destroyed.

Sincerely,

Joel Brewer

Comes back to ANYTHING you send on the subject. I don't think they read it...
And looking at the idenity of the committee heads, I think it's just a cheap excuse. Keep a-mailin'. :)
