Hoyer chosen as House Majority leader over Murtha

As I remember, anyone correct me if I'm wrong, Mr. Hoyer of Maryland has been active on the anti gun, pro gun control side of arguments/debates, and legislative proposals. With his selection as Majority Leader in the House, one wonders as to our side might fare?

Don't worry Alan, according to some folks it is apparently GREAT NEWS and NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT that the House leadership is Evangelically anti-gun.

Or maybe folks are just fooling themselves.

Are you going to kvetch and moan for the next two years, Greg?

It seems like you've assigned yourself the mission to hold your fellow TFL members personally responsible for the fact that your favorite team didn't win this last election. Maybe you should spend your time working towards the next election? Run for office, or volunteer for your local Republican candidate, perhaps? Any of those two would be more useful to your cause than continuously shouting "It's all your fault!" on a gun-centric board.

If people agree with you, the sermons are pointless. If people disagree with you, the snippy snideness in your posts is going to turn people off rather than onto your cause. You're certainly boring the stuffing out of me, personally.

Hoyer is an NRA F. He's always been an NRA F, even back when Clinton was in office, or Bush I, or Reagan. He also HATES Nancy Pelosi. Evidently there is bad blood since they were both interns in the same office decades ago. The attempt to put Murtha in his place won't help that a bit.

The Democrats elected seem to be pretty conservative, and will be looking to maintain that appeal in the home district.

I voted, as did my wife. We are registered Democrats (had to do with reality in our county in Maryland), buy have NEVER voted the Dems Party ticket. In Georgia, it matters little.

I second Marko, get off the chicken-little rant, and try to actually DO something. I doubt that you'll find many who supported the Democratic Party candidates here. If you do. please take it to PM.:)

I think I should change my sig to
"When millions of Americans DON'T disappear in a mushroom cloud but their lives, limbs, civil rights and economic security are gone instead...I blame GREG BELL.

Muhahahahahahahahaha!!!!! You have found me out. Here is a picture of what it will look like when me and my Republican buddies carry you off for renting that porno movie at "Holiday Inn."

Reposted due to high truth content.

You will forgive me, if I take that advice with a grain of salt. It is a common tactic for the opponents of a position to offer such advice. It is a rhetorical move thats actual purpose is to shut down discussion.

It is a lot like all the free advice that Iran, Al-Queda, Hugo Chavez, etc gave the American people when they praised the election of Democrats. Sure, they have our best interests at heart.

:D

I have listened to certain people (on other boards) whine for the last six years, about how Bush stole the election (of 2000). They haven't stopped kvetching for a minute. It was beyond tiresome after the first month, let alone for the last six years.

So, are you going to be a kvetcher for the next two years, Greg?

Perhaps... But it is also an actual method of putting to good use your time and talent for real change.

Back to the topic at hand.

Having Hoyer chosen over Pelosi's choice (Murtha) shows us that the Democratic leadership is fractured. Pelosi does not have the powerbase to beat the party into submission. She will be hard pressed to maintain real control over the House majority.

Another sign of gridlock, IMO.

Add to this mix, that Lieberman has even said he would caucus with the Republicans in the Senate, should the Democrats stray from the center...

The signs are good that the Democrats will not be able to muster the votes, in either House, to effect their own agenda.

Murtha is a slug; of this I have no doubt. However, why can't things just be simple for a change? Murtha for all his liberal faults has an "A" rating from the NRA, the Maryland Congressman Hoyer who just beat him for the leadership position has the distinction of a solid "F" rating from the NRA. Now Pelosi's California and Hoyer's Maryland style of gun control will dominate the two highest positions in the new majority. I don't think a more caustic couple could have slithered their way to the top. Watch your six, these two are used to getting their way and have been involved in the most radical gun control movements in their respective states, this could get scary...

Jeep, Murtha was Pelosi's choice for Majority Leader. Holer was senior and was elected against Pelosi's wishes (and arm twisting)!

It is not expected that Pelosi and Hoyer will get along too well. Dissension in the ranks right off the bat!

About this, we shall see, though I hope you are right..

There are real signs of an anti-left movement within the Democratic Party.

1) The House picked up 10 pro-gun rated Democrats, now totaling 26 in the upcoming 110th Congress.

2) The Senate went from ZERO pro-gun Democrats to 3 at the very time that Chuck Schumer was in charge of recruiting candidates and doling out war chest money to support campaigns.

3) Lieberman holds out the possibility of caucusing with Republicans, making the Senate a 50-50 deadlock...co-chairmanships, etc.

4) Pelosi may have seniority but she has shown already that she neither speaks for the party caucus nor necessarily represents them.

Anyway, this will all be back page news, once everyone realizes how prominent the Congressional Black Caucus and their it's-all-about-race agenda has become. It's all so ironic, since any pro-gun movement originated with Republicans trying to ensure that blacks could enjoy the right to own guns.

Think anyone will notice and or make mention of the racist strain that has run through Gun Control proposals and enactments for a long time?
