How's Tommy Thompson on RKBA ?

As new head of Health & Human Services, it could matter in a roundabout way. I beleive one of his agebncies is the Centers for Disease Control, which publishes widely cited 'research' on accidents & injuries in the home.

TT

Word around the campfire is he might have more time for the issues if he wasn't so busy skirt chasing...

He's a RINO (Republican In Name Only). He has CONSISTENTLY blocked efforts to allow CCW in Wis. The man is a traitor to RKBA believers everywhere. (But now that he'll be LEAVING Wis, we might actually have a chance to legally defend ourselves...)

Dennis, I talk pretty frequently with the head of the Wisconsin Pro Gun Movement (don't know if he wants his name mentioned, so I won't) and he's indicated that it's Chuck Chvala who's standing in the way of CCW. Never mentioned Thompson.

Thompson is pretty moderate in most areas of governing. He did sign the Range Protection Act and preemption legislation that kept some cities like Madison from passing ridiculous gun legislation.
He hasn't embraced gun lawsuits, and near as I can tell supported the right to keep and bear arms amendment to the state constitution. But RKBA is not a big issue for him.

What will be interesting here is to see how Lt. Governor Scott McCallum will do over the next two years. We have two anti's (AG Doyle and Congressman Tom Barrett) already at the starting gate for governor in 2000. Pretty scary.

Lets try to get him to drop the hammer on the Center for Disease Control. They need to get back to medical matters aon out of politics.
He can also get what ever pitiful housing program this country might have left after 8 years of Clinton/Gore neglect and perversion back into the business of getting Americans into their own homes and get it out of law suites against gun manufacturers.
I think that's the minimum we should expect from Tommy Thompson. He doesn't have to be a 2nd Amendment Absolutist to do those the decent thing for the agencies under his charge. He just needs to get them back to their intended purposes in order to do all Americans a big favor.

Herodotus,

I see you are into some inside baseball. Nice catch on the link between T.T. and HHS and CDC and anti-gun "research."

For that matter, I would like to see Treasury nominee Paul O'Neal fold BATF, but, well, you know.

Everybody can't do everything. Thompson spearheaded welfare reform, the best thing that happened under Clinton (who vetoed it twice before bowing to political reality). If TT will keep the pedal to the metal on that issue, and make some headway in changing the victim/entitlement culture at HHS, he'll have served his country well.

I agree, "he can serve his country well." Just get him the HELL out of Wisconsin, so a (perhaps) REAL conservative (instead of a RINO) can serve US HERE. I resent being a FELON if I decide to protect my life, or the lives of my family, while out "in public".

Good riddance, Mr. "Man of the people." (read as: closet elitist b*stard.)
