How's this complaint letter (anti-carry business sign)

Dear Sir or Madam:


I am writing to express my regret at your “concealed handgun policy” as per your sign posted at one of the ticket booths.

I will no longer frequent your place of business where I had most recently intended to watch TRAFFIC on 1/10/01 and watched, prior to my notice of the sign, ALL THE PRETTY HORSES on 1/08/01. As I am frequently in Lubbock, I had intended to watch more movies at Tinseltown as I had watched them there in the past. I will also recommend to others not to go to Tinseltown due to your policy.

It is unfortunate that you wish to exclude a very safe and responsible section of the public from your theater. Texas CHL holders pass a FBI background check and receive state sanctioned training in Texas law, firearm safety, and marksmanship. Statistical figures compiled from state data show that:

 CHL holders were 5.7 times less likely to be arrested for violent offenses than the general public [127 per 100,000 population versus 730 per 100,000]

 CHL holders were 14 times less likely to be arrested for nonviolent offenses than the general public [386 per 100,000 population versus 5,212 per 100,000]

 Further, the general public is 1.4 times more likely to be arrested for murder than CHL holders, and no licensee had been arrested for negligent manslaughter.

Nice polite letter.

Be sure to subtly include something to the effect that your family buys lots of popcorn and soda while there. Individual theaters and their chains make very little or (more often) nothing on ticket sales. They don’t really care what you saw, they care about what you ate!

Also make sure you send a copy to their corporate headquarters (probably in California somewhere). Then have your friends do it. Then their friends, etc..

Might also mention the murder of two women in the parking lot of one of their theaters in Dallas several years ago. It was a car jack/robbery that turned ugly. I'm sure there isnt much Mall Security after the late shows either.

Was it just a circle/slash sign or was it a Texas 30.06 regulation sign. They told us during my CHL renewal class the the ONLY legal no weapons sign is the 30.06 sign. For those who dont live in Texas it requires a specific message written in 2 inch letters in English and Spanish displayed in a prominent place. They are very hard to miss because of the size.
 
It was a legal 30.06 sign. But it was only posted on the back wall of ONE of the three ticket booths. It wasn't on the ticket booth back wall that I bought tickets at (only one booth was open). I only saw it by chance. I thought about ingnoring it because it 'technically' wasn't legal signage (IMO) because of the numerous entrances not marked and only the one booth. But it really p*ssed me off.

I told the lady in the booth (a mgt type in non-theater uniform) that they were loosing business today because of the sign. It took some explaining for her to figure out what I meant. Her defense (she seemed dumbfounded) was that other businesses had them. I think that there is 1 or 2 other private businesses in the whole d*mn city are so marked. I'm also thinking about a letter to the Chamber of Commerce. Midland and Oddessa are both less anti-gun AFIK.
 
I myself like the idea of reminding them that by disarming customers, they are assuming at least partial responsibility for the safety of those customers, and that your letter is putting them on notice of same. (Send it registered/return receipt.) Then you mention that if any criminal attack should occur in their business, you will forward your letter to any attnorneys representing any victims or estates of victims who may have been injured or killed in said attack.

In short, threaten them, politely.
 
Don't forget to ask that all important question:

Do you really think a criminal will care what that sign says? Think a thug will say to himself "Golly gee willackers, I better not go in there with my gun, they don't want guns in there."?

Or do you think it will be more likely that he'll go "Yes! Easy pickins!" when he sees that sign?

Excellent letter. Cites facts, remains polite, cites the consequence of their losing your business.

I agree that you should mention that, by banning you from carrying your gun, they are potentially assuming a much greater degree of liability.

It might be couched this way - "People who legally carry a concealed weapon are better trained than the "Rent-A-Cops" you employ. Several years ago two women were murdered in your lot despite that so-called protection. By denying me the right of self-defense, you have assumed the liability of protecting me. All interested parties have been informed of that fact."
