I have a 1st Gen. on my .308 PSS. The rangefinder works as advertised once you learn how to use it. The internal level bubble in a nice extra. The rangefinder can sometimes clutter up your view but since the reticle varies in size with the magnification level I don't find it to be a problem.
The adjustments are positive and repeatable. Clarity, light gathering and transmission are excellant.
My only bitch with this scope is that it lacks paralax adjustment. It doesn't pose a problem inside of 300 yds. and out to about 500-600 it's not much of a problem but it is annoying. I usually don't shoot much over 600 yds. Clarity definitly suffers at long range.
Springfields are quality scopes. When I bought mine they only offered the basic 1st gen. model. If I were buying one now I would spend the extra $ and get a model with paralax adjustment. (and maybe a mildot reticle)
I am seriously considering putting one of Tascos' 10X Super Sniper scopes on my rig. (with side focus ring) I mainly use the rifle at the range or while groundhog hunting so I don't think I would miss the adjustable magnification too much. Sniper Country has done a great review of the Tasco. Check it out at www.snipercountry.com

I have three friends that own the Spring. flagships: III Gen. 6.5x20x56, illuminated mil-dot scopes, with 30mm tubes (for extra range adjustment) and adjustable objectives. I don't think the bubble level is usefull (and I don't think it was properly adjusted in one of the scopes), as you can easily level the reticle pretty well wtih your eyes. The reticle is located near the turrets, and changes its size with power, you can read mils at every magnification, but I find the variable size annoying. I think the best range finding reticle is the mil-dot. Overall, the quality is pretty decent, but I don't think their turrets will sustain heavy usage and lots of clicking. I have a Tasco SS10x42 (parallax adjustment on the rear) mounted on a M1A, and I was very happy until at about 800 rounds the something inside the turrets became loose. You can check at www.shooterstalk.com , "tactical" forum, and these people are not too happy with any of them. For my next rifle I'm planning on a Leupold Tactical LR 6.5x20x50, with optional M1 turrets, mil-dot reticle, and 30mm tube. it won't have the illuminated reticle (you can have it at extra prize) or bubble level, but for a little more I'll have a more dependable scope, wich means everything when you are shooting long range.
