My New Howa 6.5 x 55 "Break-In" Shots
I went out yesterday and shot my brand new Howa 6.5 x 55 Gameking with some cheapo $19.00 factory ammo. I even forgot the brand. I am pretty impressed with the rifle. Other than my Sweedish Mauser, 6.5 x 55, that I bought about 20 years ago for $49, it is the least expensive rifle I've ever bought; but it feels good and shoots good, as you can see from the pictures I have attached from shooting yesterday.
I shot the first 18 rounds following the mfg "break-in" procedure. The one bullet outside of the group was the very first shot I took... I jerked it because I was anticipating some recoil, which was stupid because I knew this thing didn't have much recoil. I didn't know if it was sighted in with a bore sighter, so I set the target at 25 yards, pulled the bolt and aligned it on the target then took those 18 shots. I moved my sights 4 right and 4 up to see if I could get a little closer to center when I moved the target out to 100 yards. In the 2nd picture you can see where I hit with my 19th and 20th shots from 100 yards.
I shot another 40 rounds, and every bullet was grouped within 2" of center and about 2" high. I think I could shoot a little better if the local gun range had higher benches. But it was close to home and easy to go shoot my new rifle.
My initial thoughts on the Howa 1500 rifle and action, it is nice! I would buy another Howa.
