How would you respond?

This is a quote from another forum. How would you answer this guy's analogy?
"I still do not view making waiting periods longer and therefore eliminating gun shows as an infringment on my rights. Ill just go to a shop and purchase my weapons the same as I do now.

To all that argue otherwise--do you also believe that making possession of marijuana a crime? It may make me happy, that is a right upheld by the constitution, life - liberty- pursuit of happiness. So isnt making/keeping wacky weed illegal infringing on my rights and just another way of chipping away until we are under the rule of the likes of stalin?"

Use the analogy of the alcohol prohibition and restrictions on abortion or freedom of speech (abortion may be a bad example for some people). Govt. actions encourage organized crime and/or put unreasonable burdens on the excersize of rights.

Call him a stupid moron, troll. DFTFT. Of course, if he's a regular that might not fly.

"A right delayed is a right denied." -- Martin Luther King Jr.

MLK was talking about voting rights, but it's clear he fully understood what waiting periods are all about.

To start with, tell this SOB that there are parts of the country where the only sources for a good variety of guns are at gun shows.
And there are also people who find themselves in need of guns (the LA riots come to mind)
who could be injured or killed while under a waiting period. Then ask him how he can be so self-centered and selfish to surrender rights that he doesn't see as essential to him, but are essential to many others. Would he not mind infringements on the 14th Amendment that would return us to the days of forced segregation, just because he's not black?

It's not about whether he can live with the restrictions. It's a matter of solidarity among gun owners, without which the second amendment will be blown away like a mound of sand, grain by grain.

Too many people today only care about THEIR Rights. How about other people? So, HE can go to a store and get a gun, therefore he does not care a bit that gun shows are shut down. How about sticking up for other people's rights? What would he say if they targeted shutting down gun stores and there were no gun shows in his area to go to? Would he not hope that people that don't go to gun stores would stick up for HIS right?
We have to fight for everyone's rights. I will even fight for the right of HCI to publish their disinformation because it is a right of free speech for them to say their opinion. Rights apply to ALL and we have to fight for ALL rights, even the ones that don't directly apply to us.

Thanks for the replies, fellas. I noticed today, that a local gun dealer had about half the stock of handguns that he did the last time I was in. Maybe Clinton's legal action against them is scarying the businesses off. We may find ourselves with a second amendment and no handguns to buy.

Ask him if he's willing to list out the rights he DOES find essential, then let you pick and choose, then give up the ones YOU don't see as losses or infringements on YOUR rights.

First tell the idiot that nowhere in the Constitution does it mention Life,Liberty, or the pursuit of ANYTHING. That is the Declaration of Independence. Second, his rights are dependant on the rights of all the People, Just because he doesn't think it will hurt his rights is a lousy excuse.
His Death means nothing to my rights, therefore by his own logic(or lack there of) it should not be unlawful to kill him. It's sure no skin off my nose, except that ever person haas the right to life, that is a natural right, and as such I will defend his life just because it is the RIGHT thing to do.
Ever notice that we never say that something is the left thing to do? I wonder why? ;)
