With due respect to all forum members: I'm not interested in any response telling me I'm wrong about this law coming. I don't want to be told that this will "NEVER EVER HAPPEN", because, for this exercise, I want to pretend that it is possible. Please limit responses to actual "What would you do" posts. Thank you.
This concept is not new. It seems to be a certain eventuallity to most, with the only debate being the time frame. Our guns might be outlawed. In this generation or one to follow, and either one type at a time or all at once, firearms are believed by many to become posessions of military and government agencies only.
Now, many things have been said in response to these doomsday predictions. Comments like "From my cold dead hand," to "Well sorry officer, that old gun I used to have got lost/ got sold," to "Hide them in your drywall!" have been echoed through out this forum and among pro-gun groups across America.
The question I want to pose is to those who wish to keep their firearms through out a ban such as this. It's one thing to talk about it and act tough. But let's face it. Cause and effect definatly comes into play with situations like this, and I want to know how it will play out for certain people, if you would so humor me. What will you do if Mr. Government comes to your door for the guns you have?
Keep them, Illegally: We hate the idea of giving them up, so you keep them. Maybe you give up some and keep the old faithful 1911 or .357. Maybe you lie and say you sold all your guns years ago.
--So now what?--
You are now a criminal. Guilty of possibly a felony, depending on how the anti-law is written. If you CCW and are forced to use it, YOU WILL GO TO JAIL. If someone enters your home illegally and your shoot them, YOU WILL GO TO JAIL.
--Violation of the 4th Amendment to enforce ban?--
Well maybe they believe that your guns were sold or lost while hunting. But possibly they don't care, and need to check your house anyway, against your will. Warrant or no warrant, they're coming in. Are your guns hidden already, and are you safe? Or do you make your stand, beginning a war with the agents at your door and any other enforcers who show up in your drive way? By this point will there be an underground rebellion with many others who will welcome you and your guns to overthrow the Democratic Nazi's/whoever?
--Paper weight?--
What do we do with our illegal guns now, that is if you keep any? Is the jail sentence worth using the illegal weapon to defend yourself? Or are you keeping it just for the sake of having an antique to show your grandchildren?
I'm not sure about how I would handle this, which is why I'm asking for a general opinion from the group. I will soon have a compact .45 and a compact .32 or .380, which will both be my registered CCW guns (stupid NV CCW laws). So those two are going to be on the dreaded "Take away list." I've accepted that I will probably lose them in sacrafice to keep my Glock and Security Six. But I won't know what to do with them. I surely won't use them for defense, nor to target shoot under such a ban. So why do I feel the urge to keep them? Why not turn them in like a good citizen? I just don't know if my belief of the 2nd Amendment would be worth me dying in my apartment, in vein, to a team of feds.
How would you guys handle it? And take me through your steps afterward. How do you see your decision playing out?
