How to shut any anti up about confiscation (Australia's stats)

A friend of my Aunt's emailed me this, he is looking for the source. (It was fowarded to him also):

It has now been 12 months since gun owners in Australia were forced to
surrender 640,381 personal firearms to be destroyed, a program costing the
government more than $500 million dollars.
And now the results are in: Australia-wide, homicides are up 3.2 percent;
Australia-wide, assaults are up 8.6 percent;
Australia-wide, armed robberies are up 44 percent (yes, 44 percent).
In the state of Victoria, homicides with firearms are up 300
percent. Figures over the previous 25 years show a steady decrease in armed
robbery with firearms (changed drastically in the past 12 months). There has
been a dramatic increase in break-ins and assaults of the elderly.

Australian politicians are on the spot and at a loss to explain how no
improvement in "safety" has been observed after such monumental effort and
expense was successfully expended in "ridding society of guns."

Bet you won't see this data on the evening news or hear your governor or
members of the state Assembly disseminating this information. It's time to
state it plainly: Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and
property and, yes, gun-control laws only affect the law-abiding
citizens.

Take note Americans before it's too late!

Aren't those the most wonderful statistics on earth? And it will only get worse for them. I hope some senator or rep. presents this to congress, it is unrebuttable. Enjoy and print and share.

James, those stats have been floating around for 2 years in exactly the same word-for-word format, and they're always simply copied/pasted with no attributions. That's not what I'd call compelling evidence.

Oz' gummint says the stats were cooked up by the NRA. NRA says the stats come from Oz' own version of DOJ. Short answer is, no one knows what the real situation is, other than that it's nasty.

Using Australian Bureau of Statistics figures we have produced the following graphs.

Murder and other crime rates are always unaffected by the degree of lawful firearm ownership in a society.

Study these graphs and you will be forced to the same conclusion. Remember it next time you hear anti-gun emotionalism when the prohibitionists and
social engineers bleat to the media.

Print, copy and distribute.

Data and Trends

By Satyanshu Mukherjee and Carlos Carcach

Canberra: Australian Institute of Criminology, 1996

ISBN 0 642 24017 5 ; ISSN 1326-6004

This publication presents data about firearms deaths and violent deaths, and examines some trends over the past eighty years. It aims to assist in the better
understanding of the relationship between violent death and use of firearms in Australia. Statistical information is collated from a number of sources
including the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Police Service annual reports, and the Australian Institute of Criminology's National Homicide Monitoring
program.

I figured they had been around...I am not that enthusiastic (blasted text!) but they do say what everyone of us has and will always say...confiscation=more crime. I didn't know the stupid things were causing so much trouble! Oh well...someday I will get the scoop on something :) But they do help in the war on the antis. James
