How to remove rust from a chamber?

My WASR 10 has formed a little ring of rust deep withing the chamber, where the shouder of the case rests. It's hard to reach to physically remove it. This was just after 2 days from shooting surplus ammo. I ran windex patches through the bore and oiled the hell out of it, but apparently it wasnt enough to stop the rust after two days.

Does anyone know of any size bore brushes which can fit into a 7.62 x 39 chamber? Anyone know of any rust removing products aswell?
 
I've not heard of such a rust condition as you describe here. (What make you believe it's rust as opposed to some other kind of fouling?)

That said, I recommend you get some Evapo-Rust, push a patch soaked in it down into the shoulder section of the chamber and leave it there for an hour or two (keep it soaked with a 1/4 teaspoon of solvent over that time.)

This stuff is incredible at removing rust compeletely without touching anything else. Having discovered it a few years ago, I use it for everything from godawful motorcycle parts to fine jewelry connectors. Like any rust remover, however, keep it away from that rust we call "blueing".:rolleyes:

unless you have a non milspec barrel your AK has chrome lined chamber and bore. Use a chamber brush and clean the heck out of it.

The only Warsaw Pact weapon chambered in 7.62x39 that I know of that didn't have a chrome bore and chamber was the Yugo 59/66 SKS. As far as I know all the Romanian AKs were chrome bore and chamber.

All the Romanian made WASR rifles have chrome lined bores and chambers.
That's why you need to be careful how you remove the corrosion. Damage the ultra-thin chrome lining and the rifle will corrode faster and may give extraction problems.

For a chamber brush, buy a BRONZE (not stainless) one from Brownell's. To use, stab it into the chamber and rotate a few turns. Pull out and repeat.
Don't wrap it with a patch, that ruins the brush:

I use a .45 ACP bronze brush on a short section of rod chucked in a variable speed drill. A little Filtz on the brush cleans the chamber really well. Go slow and stop insertion when you feel resistance from the brush reaching the neck taper area.
Same deal with a Mosin except I use a 20 gauge shotgun brush.
