How to remove bolt from Savage 93 .17 HMR?

Savage 93 .17 HMR with Accutrigger

Hi - I bought this rifle new a couple years ago and I believe I was able to remove the bolt for cleaning previously (but it was difficult). I have the manual in front of me and I am doing everything it says but something is caught somewhere at the rearmost part of the bolt travel and it won't come out. I removed the magazine and am depressing the trigger backwards as I move the bolt backwards - just like the manual says. But I am having no luck. Thanks for any ideas.

My other rifles are 2 bolt action Remington 700's (.300 WSM, .223), a semiauto Ruger .22, a .223 Keltec semiauto rifle. I have shotguns and pistols also. My newest shotgun is a Maxus Stalker.

Have you tried holding the trigger back just before the bolt reaches its most rearward position? Many rimfire bolt guns require it.

You are pressing the trigger backwards? I believe you have to press the trigger the normal way to remove the bolt.

I own some Savages and they are different in the way the bolt is removed. Check to see if there is a release button on the front of the trigger guard (sounds stupid but there might be one in case you didn't look. My new model 12 has one). If that's not the problem loosen the stock screws. My Savage ML2 won't release the bolt until the rear most screw is loosened or removed. If neither of these suggestions help someone else will probably jump in the the KNOWN answer. Good luck.

I had the same gun without the Accutrigger. On my Accutrigger models, you have to push the release on the side and pull the trigger to remove the bolt. My 93 didn't have a release, you just had to pull the trigger.
