How to Reinstall Hi Power Mag Disconnect Safety?

I removed this in my Hi Power about 10 years ago and still have the metal disconnect piece, the spring, and the pin that goes through the trigger, but I can't remember how to reinstall it! Do I have to take the trigger out of the receiver or can I leave it in? I can put the spring and the metal piece in the hole in the back of the trigger but can't slide it in all the way... feels like it's being blocked. I've tried taking pliers and holding up on the lever that moves upward when the trigger is pulled, but that isn't working.

Any advice?

Did it once, some 15 years ago. As I recall, you had to take the trigger out to remove the parts, so it makes sense that you'll have to take the trigger out to re-install them.

I have done it a few times with the trigger installed, but I can tell you it's a real SOB and on later guns I just took the trigger out.

in the words of Patrick Sweeney when doing that feature on a hi-power:"get your self a good cigar, a glass of good scotch and a border collie(they know things)

It might be different on a BHP,but on my old MAB P-15,the mag safety accomplished the following:

It made the trigger pull worse

When I removed the mag,I could not pull the slide back to clear a round from the chamber. So,with a trigger block safety only,it was far from unloaded. This round in the chamber is an accident waiting to happen.

The only way to unload, was jacking all the rounds through.

I am wondering why anyone would want to put one back in???

FYI, all you needed to do was remove the spring. You can leave the rest of the safety in place and it will work perfectly.

it isn't that hard, but you do have to be patient and have an exploded diagram at hand.
