How to reduce shipping costs from Midway

I saw this on another forum and tried it and it works like a charm!

If you add a "free shipping" item to your order it reduces the shipping so you get the add-on item for free.

For example. I was buying 125 grain 308 SST bullets for $27.99. After 7.59 in shipping the whole order was $35.58.

If I add CLP lube to my order ($6.09) it drops the shipping to $1.80, plus my bullets for $27.99 and the order total is $35.88!

I get the shipping for $0.30!

The CLP lube of $6.09 was free shipping, or am I missing something. Does it matter what order you place your order. What would happen if you ordered the CLP first.

Yes. CLP is one of the "free shipping" items sold by Midway. They have 9000+ items.
If you are gonna buy something from them and you can find something that ships free that you want it saves you some $ on shipping.
They have stuff as low as $1.99 you can add on.

Glad to hear there is some way to reduce the shipping from Midway. I've shopped several items from other places after seeing Midway's price after shipping.

black hog down, thanks for the heads up. I do order from Midway USA, will give it a try. Thanks, the first beer is on me.

The best way is to start ordering from GRAF & SONS. I dropped Midway when they went to pay shipping and never went back.

I tried it out and it works! Bought el cheapo Lee press to dedicate to decapping brass before cleaning and some targets with free shipping.

Lee Press alone $37.99 with shipping total $45.53
added
Tagets/free sh $4.99 new total with sh $44.78

So I got both items for $44.78, saving $.80 on shipping and got the targets free.

Thanks for the tip Black Hog!

You're right gunplummer, I order powder powder and primers from Grafs. Have to pay HazMat fees no matter what, but Midway's shipping added onto cost was an insult.

Plus Grafs and Midway are not that far from each other. I bet the same Fed Ex trucks stop at both places.
Mostly I shop at Grafs unless Midway has a killer deal on blem bullets. Then i stock up.
I will remember the free shipping trick.
Thanks

I do it all the time, and have been doing so since they added the "free shipping" category last year.

Recent examples:
-----

$84.87 - Cast bullets and some miscellaneous muzzle loader supplies.
$16.90 - Shipping.
$101.77 - Total.
Added a crappy pair of 'free shipping' gloves to the order for $2...
$86.87 - Cart contents.
$2.80 - Shipping.
$89.67 - Total.

I knocked $14.10 off the total, and got crappy gloves for free.

-----

$61.98 - Ear protection and a holster.
$12.00 - Shipping.
$73.98 - Total.
Added a "free shipping" clearance trimmer pilot (that I needed anyway! :D) for $4.15...
$66.13 - Cart contents.
$1.00 - Shipping.
$67.13 - Total.

I got a pilot that I already needed for free, plus another $7.85 off of shipping.

-----

$18.27 - Clearance cast bullet mold for an experiment, and a some bore brushes.
$16.00 - Shipping!!
$34.27 - Total.
Added a "free shipping" accessory for my Havalon knife for $8.99...
$27.26 - Cart contents.
$0.00 - Shipping (free).
$27.26 - Total

Two ways to look at it:
1. I got the $9 knife accessory for free, and paid $9 for shipping.
2. I paid $9 for the accessory, and got free shipping.

-----

And another one...
$60.48 - Muzzle loader nipple, hearing protection, and a tap.
$12.00 - Shipping.
$72.48 - Total.
Added one of the nearly worthless "free shipping" 5ive Star Gear multi tools for $3.69...
$64.17 - Cart contents.
$0.00 - Shipping (free).
$64.17 - Total.

Again, this is a "glass half full or half empty" deal: Either I got the tool for free with $3.69 shipping, or I got the tool for $3.69 and free shipping.

Either way... still cheaper than standard shipping costs.

Oh... and don't bother telling me that Midway's shipping is ridiculous. They aren't the only place I buy from online. EVERYONE has ridiculous shipping costs now.

So far I've ordered the CLP, the "camp" scissors, a little Kershaw pocket knife, and the "crappy" $2 gloves.
I personally found the $2 fleece gloves better than expected.

how do you know whats free shipping and whats not?

are you just trolling until you see a free shipping item or is there a tab for them.

I personally found the $2 fleece gloves better than expected.
I will admit that for $2, they're of reasonable quality. For free, they're even better.
But I'd never pay the original price ($9.99+) for them, if looking at them in a store.
