Dear all,
I'm really confused. I've searched the internet about how to read range report numbers but have not been able to hit a single success. What is a handgun range report and how is it made. Please help and also give me a good link on the net for range report and target education. Thanks.

Here is a link to Stoeger Cougar range report:

Here is another Stoeger Cougar range report link:

If I understand you correctly, the number your asking about is the extreme spread of the bullet holes in the target.

As a for instance: 10 rounds were fired at a target at 25 yards. The distance between the two shots furthest apart is 4 inches. This would be the "spead" of that specific ammunition in that gun. It would be reported as a "four inch group". Some writers give you the smallest and largest groups, some test at different distances.

HTH!

I looked at the chart in the second link. In that chart they were talking about the velocity of the round...the feet per second . In that case the extreme spread is referring to consistancy of the ammo. If the number is 31, that means that the fastest bullet was 31fps faster than the slowest round . .that may have a little to do with group size...if you can hold perfectly consistant sight picture...something I will NEVER be able to do. Therefore, my group size is always larger than the wonderful things I read about. :D
