How to get a FFL?

What kind of information does it take to get a FFL? How much does it cost? Is there some kind of "Training" booklet or instruction sheet? How long does it take to complete the training/classes/paperwork? How long is it good for? Where do you get the information/forms to do it all?
Not looking to go into business, just wondering how much my local bozos have to go through just to have the priveledge to say "We don't handle transfers".
I've bought 4 guns from my loacal dealer in the last year, plus MUCH reloading stuff and a range membership, not to mention referal service!! I have a Bushmaster DCM (something which he won't order, even if I pay up front!) on the way through a shooting club group purchase, but I have nowhere to transfer it to!!!

It takes little more information than that you have to fill out on the 4473. The license, which is good for three years, cost $200 (ClassI). The "bound book" one must purchase seperately from a local source. There is no training per se. Completing the paperwork should take the average "Bozo" no longer than an hour and it will take six to eight weeks to get the license back.
A lot of "dealer" do not like doing "transfers" for people whom do not patronize them for the purchase of "in stock" items/guns. However if your dealer refuses to "transfer" guns you have located elsewhere, it is not something he has "on the shelf" and you are a regular customer tell him to shove off and find a real dealer that appreciates your business.

Check out the ATF website, I believe you should find your answers there. Also unless you are going to run a bonafide "gun shop" with a bonafide "store front" I don't believe they will issue you a full dealers license. In recent years they have cracked down on guys that operate out of their basements, extra bedrooms and whatever.
Now if you want you could get a C&R license but that limits you to curios and relics.I have one of those and it does help but when it comes to new handguns and rifles I'm treated just like anyone else.
Hope this kinda helps :)

Banzai,

I notice that you live in Tidewater, Virginia. If you have trouble with out of state transfers, you may want to check the Virginia Arms site (www.virginiaarms.com). Their transfer procedures are outline clearly and they charge only $20. I know Manassas is a few hours from Norfolk, but it is in Virginia; thus all legalities should be squared away.
