How to find to if you are legal?

Got a friend who I do not help with anything gun related because he said that he got into some firearm trouble when he was a minor. How can he find out if he is legal without attempting to buy a gun?

If he doesnt know if he's a convicted felon or not he probably dont know much. Unless it was a domestic violence thing, wich they dont like either. I would think that you have to get out of him just what ''some gun trouble'' really means.
 
Your buddy can go to the Local PD or Sheriff's Office and have his Criminal History run (sometimes for a small fee).
That'll tell him what's on his record for Felonies.

No problem. Have your buddy call each place and find out which ones will do it, then go down in person.
Also, the request is not instantaneous. Usually takes a few working days.

As a minor, wouldn't the records be sealed? Also, I thought that unless as part of a plea that if you were arrested for a felony as a minor, and that the records are then sealed when you become an adult, that it wouldn't be on your adult "rap sheet" (don't know the real name for this sheet).

But, I'm not an LEO/Lawyer or anything so I could or may be very wrong.

TBO and some of the others know better then I do, my response was more of a question to go along with your original thread :).

Good advice, but will add to it. Also, he needs to contact police in every town he has lived in in the past, if he has lived in different states. Sometimes, for example, a record will show in Ohio, but not show up in Texas.

This last May I applied for my CCW at the local sheriff's office. A week later I get a call from them. "Mr. xxx, it shows that you were arrested on Feb 22, 1956 in xxx, Illinois. Might you know what that was all about? That city doesn't have any details of why you were arrested." I exclaimed, "Almost 50 years ago? I really don't know." The deputy then said, "We'll have to look into this further." Five days later I received my CCW. Whoever said big brother is dead?
