How to establish proper cheek weld on a Rem 700 VS.

I was noticing after my last range session that when I shimmed the rear scope base for long range shooting, I think my cheek weld went off quite a bit on my standard factory stock that comes with the 700 VS. Question is, what is the best way to fix this. I could buy a $500 tactical stock from H-S Precision with adjustable cheek weld and LOP, but is that really necessary (it would be nice!)? What are my other options as far as kits with adjustable cheek pads or just plain using some foam and some tape on the existing stock? I really don't want a crappy looking rig with a taped up stock, but it would work out alright since the gun is already painted and I could easily paint over the tape. What do you all think? What should I do?

Anyone know how much you could sell one of those VS factory stocks for?

Thanks.

You do what you can afford and what makes you happy. Some folks modify their rifle just like you suggested - tape a piece of foam rubber and voila! Remember, hitting the target is the main objective, not cosmetics.

Where?

I would like to check out the Beartooth item, but I don't know where. Could you give me a hint? Thanks for all of your input so far.

I just used a piece of GI sleeping pad and duct tape(camoflage of course). Blackhawk also has heigth adjustable cheekpieces.

Eagle makes some nice cheekpieces that attach with hook and loop (velcro), with ammo loops and a small compartment on the back side for small items. It put my eye right behind the scope.
