How stuff works "Revolvers"

That site made my first shooting experience much more fruitful and less frightening. The site explains exactly why and how everythign works, and so I felt very comfortable with guns before I even touched them.

I highly recomend that site for any beginners who have a mechanical side.

As it moves backward, the hammer compresses a metal spring in the gun stock (the handle). The diagram above shows a coiled spring; uncoiled tension springs are also used in revolvers.

Only the best ones. :D

Cute headstamp on the "example" cartridge.

H&K never has had ammo manufactured with its headstamp, certainly not in 1950.

And, the proportions of the case make the round appear a LOT more like the .32 French Longue than a 9mm. :)

WOW! Unsafe revolver, too!

There's no hammer rebound or block mechanism, and at rest you can actually see the firing pin nose sitting on the primer. :D

You can also find out how machine guns, grenades, landmines, flame throwers, flintlock guns, cruise missiles, apache helicopters, bio/chem weapons, stinger missiles, BB guns and nuclear bombs work on that same site.

The gun used appears to be a Taurus type action which is a very simplified version of the S&W revolver. Except for the older Colts and Webleys, most DA revolvers operate like this. For Colts, do a search under my name for Python. You'll find out how a Python works. Unfortunately, I don't have CAD skills so I can't do a nice diagram of internal parts to go with it.

You're seeing right, Jack. Firing that revolver would be a hell of a crap shoot, so to speak.

Also, the revolver has a heck of a twist rate - about 1 turn in 2 inches! (I know, it's for illustration only.)

Where is the magazine on the gun? (Item 5 in the legend.) :)

Q. Why do we feel we must severely critique a fairly good explanation on a good site?

A. Because we're gun nuts, that's why!

We pick on things like that because we have become used to and expectant of perflect....purfekti.....prefeckti.....oh well....we expedt goodness.
