How reliable are the super capacity Glock magazines in 9 mm and 40 S&W?

I have a Glock 17 and I'd like to try a long stick mag and drum mag, and I have a Glock 23 that I'd like to try the same (if available).

My experience in the 1990s that they weren't reliable for other brands of guns I used to own.

Thoughts? Experiences? Recommendations?

I use the 22 shot .40 mags in both pistol and pistol/carbine. Glock 35 converted to .357 SIG. AR-15 DI pistol that uses Glock mags in .357 SIG.

I changed the mag follower to the one meant for .357 SIG and that was it. They work just as well as the standard capacity ones in my guns. I've even added some extensions to a couple of them and they still work.

And yeah, I've never heard of anybody with a problem with the 33 round 9mm mags in a G17. I keep planning to build an AR-15 in 9mm just to use those mags.

Again... the factory glock mags work perfectly in my experience. For the 9mm and .40. 33 rounds for the 9, and 22 for the 40.

I have a number of Glock and Korean 33 rounders and none of them have been what Id consider "reliable". The Glock mags are better, but the ones I have, have all had issues.

I recently picked up a couple of the MagPul 20 rounders, and they work fine. Im interested in trying their 27 rounders.

Now the 17 round Glock and Korean mags I have work fine, with no issues.

The 33 round Glock factory mags work perfectly in my JRC carbine. Just another example in something other than a Glock pistol

Magazine bumper pads can be had to increase your capacity to 22 rounds, probably more now a days. If you are shooting competition there is a limit to how long your mags can be.

The 33 round Glock magazines work flawlessly.

Good luck.

Yes, I agree I've had one for years. I use it at the range and it's a lot of fun, but never really used it for anything else. I suppose it could also be used for home defense if you felt so inclined.

I cant help with 9mm Glocks but I picked up 5 of the Korean 45 ACP manufactured for my Kris Vector. Several things I like about them.
1. They have the metal limning just like Glock the entire length of the mag.
2. The bottom half of the mag has a nice rough texture that works with or without gloves.
And the price is great.
I would like to give you a high round count but its well under 500, but I have had no failures.

Can't speak for all the different mags out there, but Glock mags work, like it's... Perfection

I have a 30+ round .40 S&W Mag that's an Asian magazine. It runs flawlessly in my Gen 1 Sub-2000 carbine, but in the Glock... jams every 3 to 5 rounds. I'd stay away from the Asian mags as there are better offers available today, which wasn't the case years ago.

Magpul came out with some 27 round 9mm mags, I hear they work great, but I can't find any anywhere.

Elite Tactical Systems (ETS) came out with both 9mm and .40 S&W translucent polymer magazines this year and I haven't heard anything bad about them. The nice thing is, unlike the Magpul mags, you can see the rounds in the mag and they make 31 rounders for both 9mm and .40 S&W. Been meaning to pick a few of these up to test in my Gen 4 G35 with stock Glock barrel and Lone Wolf 9mm barrel.

My opinion: Buy a mag of each you want to test and see what results you get. If good, buy more, if not, well... at least you tried.

EDIT: Oh, and as for the SGM 50 round drum magazine, again, I've read and heard some mixed results, but I think such issues could be ammo related. If you do get the drum, first don't pay more than $60 for it and test it with good ammo, not the cheap crap.

Glock brands are as reliable as the 17 rounders.
I havent found that to be the case, and I have a number of both.

The Glock brand 33 rounders are "more" reliable than the Korean versions, but mine all usually have some sort of issue every time Ive had them out.
