How rare it this: .223 Derringer?

I have two thoughts in my mind right now.

1. Totally impractical on a barrel that short. Probably has a muzzle flash 10 feet long.:barf:
2. I've never seen one of those before. It would be cool to have it.:cool:

My guess is that it is rather rare. Couldn't have been many made.
 
lol cauterize the wound :P I would buy it just because it would be cheap and fun to shoot. No it wouldnt be a pain on the wrists you'd be fine.
 
It said in the discription:
Custom made pistol. Built in 7-23-1996 none made since than.
So I take it is the only AD .223 in the world.

$900 buys a whole lot of firearms you can actually shoot and carry in the real world.

It's a joke.

You want a butt kicking derringer, there are many styles and calibers that are high quality and won't set you back half that.
 
Gunshop I stop in at once in a while's had one sitting around waiting for the right person to come along and buy it. I don't remember their exact price, but I'm positive it's under $900. I'm also positive I'm not the right person to buy it.:p
 
I'm guessing that the tip of a bullet would be about 1/4" from the muzzle. Someone needs to do a youtube search & see if there's a video of some fool shooting one of these :D
 
As far as I know, American Derringer is still in business and has been making stuff like that for 20 years. I didn't check their website: http://www.amderringer.com/guns.html but several years ago when I did look closely at their website that .223 derringer was a standard production item.
They also had a similar derringer in .44 Rem Mag and .45-70.
The .223 is a pipsqueek.


I would love to own an American Derringer is some ridiculous caliber. One of my top choices would be .223.
But, I am not going to pay $900 for it.
I have plenty of guns to use for "practical" purposes. I like unusual stuff like this.
 
It is a true statement that the .223 was a stocked caliber in the ADC guns back when they were in regular production. If you go to THR someone actually did a chrono and penetration test with one of these. Here is the link;

Obviously, there is a significant velocity loss in a 3" barrel gun. Velocity is what makes the .223 effective in the first place. Enjoy!

Actually, ballistics from a derringer can be surprisingly good. I get 1100 fps with a 240gr bullet out of my .44 mag Bond Arms.
