My dad past away 12 years ago and before his passing he gave me his first rifle, which his dad traded a 12 gauge & 2 pigs for during the depression. It's a 22 Remington Model 12. It's been in my closet since my dad gave it to me & now I want to take it to the range & shoot it but, I'm trying to find out how old it is. I looked on the web but haven't been able to find anything. Can someone guide me to a site the might be able to help me?

The Remington Model 12 as made from 1909 to 1936. Approximately 830,000 were made, starting at 00001. That averages out to about 30,000 per year, so you could estimate the age that way, or you could use the barrel markings to date it.

Just to help you out a little, that rifle is not rated for high-velocity ammo, so shoot standard velocity ammo in it if you want it to last.

Thanks scorch for the info, by the serial# which is on the side above the trigger not the barrel it was built around 1930 using the 30,000 a year figure.
