How old is my gun?

I have a Browning Auto 5 Light Twelve. It is in good condition and in perfect working order. It has a ventilated rib, 23" barrel and I think it's full choke. Nobody shoots it anymore and it is taking up space in the safe, so I'm gonna sell it at the local gun show this weekend. I'm trying to find out the age to see if it will add to worth. Its serial number looks like this: 5G (and underneath it -->) 473. It was also made by FN in Belguim. I figure it's worth about $650-$800 but that's just a guess. Don't send me links to that Browning website, because I don't get how to use the system. Any help will be greatly appreciated :D.

Go to the Browning website,...

they have a SN able that give basic year.

the 5G SN indicates its a mid 50's to 60's production.

If you're going to use it, recommend ordering from Part list the complete new friction bronzes and steel rings and a new recoil spring fro around the mag tube.

Not really tactics and training worthy:)
FYI, this will probably be moved soon to either C&R or Shotguns

But moving on:

This site has a few listed with pics, both Japanese made and Belgian

One listed here with a 7G serial

There's another here with a pic of the underside - might be able to make out the serial # - listed as 1954 production

According to the Browning site I think your 5G would indicate 1965 production, assuming they started with 8G in 1958 - G being the light weight indicator. They changed the format again in 1968 - so that would be my guess

Since its a 5G serial number ...I read the Browning website to mean 1965 ...
( but since you don't want to check it ...) ???

value ...depends on condition / but with a barrel that short .../ $ 200 - $ 300 tops in my view...if its in excellent condition with very few handling marks on it ... / and the full choke ( if it is a full / is less desireable as well in my opinion ). If you haven't sold it by noon (at your local gunshow) --- change price to "best offer" ...and let it go ....
