How often does everyone actually shoot each gun they own.

I may be the odd man here. I end up spending alot more on guns than I do shooting them. I have a total of only 4 guns now, but each one only gets shot about once every other month. Do you all have guns that just sit in your safe too? At the rate I shoot, I probably only shoot each one 5-6 times a year. I go to the gun store, I see something I have to have and I buy it. Why do we insist one spending money on guns, when we dont shoot the ones we have near enough! Am I the only one who does this?

When my collection was at it's "I-manage-a-gun-store" peak, I did indeed have many 'safe queens' (and drawer queens and closet queens and attic queens ;) ) A TZ-75 in .41AE, for example, just ain't gonna get shot a lot, nor is a Winchester "Legendary Lawmen" commemorative .30-30. Now that it's at a more manageable, ummm... lemme check... 8 pistols (although a trip to the gun shop is in the works for tomorrow, so that # may be obsolete by the time you read this! ;) ) I try and throw 'em all in the range bag and put at least one cylinder/mag through 'em once a month. That way the ones that don't get to make the more frequent "defense practice" workouts don't get their feelings hurt... :D

I shoot at least twice a week with multiple firearms. The favorites get shot often enough, but yes, there are a few that don't see the light of day too often.
If I only had four that would never be a problem ;)

At present I only have two, Browning Buckmark .22 and Makarov.

I shoot each at least once a week, sometimes twice, 150-200 rnds each. The .22 is simply irresistable, just too much fun to ignore for more than a couple of days.

I shoot the Mak alot 'cause its my house gun and I want to stay proficient with it.

I'd like to have an old revolver for just "having". But I think if and when I do get one it'll get shot every week too.

With guns, how can "just having" be enough?

I can never understand people who just collect, if you are fortunate enough to have
something shouldn't you enjoy its use?

I shoot once a month. How many guns I shoot largely is governed by how many I want to clean. Perhaps I'm getting lazy.

I shoot my primary carry gun a lot each time I go to the range. Others get rotated in and out of the mix. Somtimes more guns, sometimes less.

Good question!

I do most of my shooting while visiting my parents on occassion. I've lived in Atlanta for several years now -- and I've learned that indoor ranges aren't cheap! That being said, there is an outdoor range close to my hometown.. about 10 minutes up the road. Its been quite busy lately with hunters and such -- so I've had to lay low rather than fight the crowd. My firearm collection is about half handguns and half rifles. The firearms that are worth the most (centimental value) are rarely shot. Rarely shot means about 4/5 times a year... Other than that, they stay oiled and locked up. My two carry guns (EAA Witness PS 9x19 & Taurus M85UL) get shot about once every other week. I usually alternate each gun. This weekend I planned on going to the range, but got lazy. It was the 9mm's turn to get shot this weekend -- but I'll just save it for later. My rifles, minus the 1903 Springfield in near perfect condition get shot quite regularly. I have a Marlin model 81-DL .22 that I shoot .22 shorts (so I don't scare the neighboors -- cuz it sounds like a pellet rifle) in quite regularly, at least once a week. This gun is older than me. Albeit in not excellent shape, it still shoots beautifully. I wish to refinish the stock on this rifle.. along with refinish the metal. I'm afraid the cost for the bluein' will be well more than what the rifle is actually worth mint condition. Ahh well.. The things you'll do for your first firearm. :D

i shoot my .22's a lot. about 500 to 1000 rounds a month.
9mm about 50 rounds a month.
same for .32, and not sure about my .45 yet but in the 2 weeks i have had it i have shot 140 rounds.

i only have 3 long guns. a 10/22, an AR-15 and an 870. i shoot them more during the summer since i don't feel like freezing my a** off at an outdoor range in the middle of the winter. :-) but i still shoot them less than my handguns in the summer even.

i have somewheres around 10 handguns. i mostly shoot my 2 glocks (19 and 30), my Sig 225, and my Beretta 92G Elite. i also have several .22's both pistols and revolvers but don't shoot them much, and i have several other pistols and revolvers that just sit there. i've been thinking of selling a few of them but know i'll regret it so i'm not gonna.

i go shooting about 2-3 times a month. i usually bring about 2-4 handguns and shoot around 150 rounds each time. i practice most with my G19 since i use it for home defense.

Some people who are primarily collectors have many guns. One collector in Europe has over 800 Lugers alone. Another in North Dakota has nearly 2000 early handguns, SAAs and others of that vintage. I know one auto pistol collector who seems to have at least one of everything. Few of us reach those figures, but I suspect that those who do just don't shoot them very often.

2-6 guns a session. As often as possible. Which may mean once a week (rarely, but has happened twice in a week's time). To once every 2-3 weeks. Mostly what slows me down is not having enough loaded up to shoot (I handload) to make a range visit worth while. Or their frequent unscheduled range closings. Winter time slows down the visits even more (since it's an outdoor range). Since I live out in the country with really no close neighbors I'll fire off a few rounds here, and there to try out any new handloads. Or when company comes, and wants to try out some of my firearms.

I don't own any land, I live in town, and I don't really have a spot where I can just go shoot. BUMMER! I have places I am allowed to hunt, but not just target shoot or run rounds downrange. I have an indoor range I can go to fairly close, but it gets kinda expensive.

I shoot my .22 pistols and rifles a lot more than the other guns partially for cost, and partially 'cause I like to. I do practice every chance I get with the P-11 & P-32

Seems like I've always got a gun or reloading project working. Whatever I'm currently working with gets shot alot. But, this means that some guns stay put away for long periods without being fired. When I find some time between projects, I'll go thru the collection and get out the ones that haven't been fired for a long time and dedicate a range trip just to them. It makes for a good day at the range to get reaquainted with old friends.

Since light travels faster than sound, isn't it logical that some people appear bright until you hear them speak?

A .22 pistol always goes to the range with me, as does the shotgun or the carbine. I rotate the other handguns, taking one or two each time, usually one. Like Capt. Bligh, I don't take more guns to the range than I want to clean after I get home.

I have some guns that I have not shot in ten years or more. Then again, if went shooting every week and I shot a different gun every weekend, I would still go almost two years without shooting the same gun twice.
