Just got off the phone with my local smith and he said to mount the scope, lap the rings if necessary, loctite all the screws, the whole nine yards and a boresight.
That's a lot. My local smith charges $35. For that much you may as well DYI. You have the videos and it's not that hard. If you bought the DedNutz rings they should be close enough to perfectly aligned that you can skip lapping them.
No reason. The only reason I got a professionals opinion is because I've never mounted a scope myself and I'm not sure as to how difficult it is to do right. I'm sure it's a fairly simple process but is it simple to do right?
Also, I'm not sure I have the tools to do so. Is it worth investing in a lapping kit?
If you do a search on here, there are all kinds of threads about how to mount a scope. It's not hard to do and you could get by without buying a lapping kit or a laser boresighter.
Walmart sells a laser bore sighter for $39.00 It works great in any barrel over 4" and all common calibers. As far as lapping rings I use 30mm rings for a 1" scope tube and plastic inserts. No one who sees me shoot says my rifles are not accurate.
