How much should I sell my mossberg for?

So, I have a Mossberg 500 cruiser, it's the 8 shot, 20 inch barrel, has a heat shield, and it came with a pistol grip. After tax it cost me $406, and I put the ATI, AR style collapsible stock on it, which was about $70. I wanted to trade it for more of a hunting gun, rather than a home defense shotgun. I was looking at the Mossberg 835 at a pawn shop, brand new for $359. I wanted to see what I could get for a trade so I asked the guy what he would give me and he said at most $200. I have had this gun for 2 months and brought it to the range about 5 times. That price just doesn't seem right to me, anyone else have any input?

Well don't get your hopes up at anywhere close to what you did pay for it.

I bought my 500 off of a guy for $100 flat with no mods. Also had not been shot. Many people I have run into wont pay full price for the mods you put on.

If it wasn't an 8 shot, I would give 2 bills but since it is that one I can only give ya' a hunert bucks... :D And you pay the ffl transfer...

Sorry, but that's probably about right for that gun from a dealer's perspective. Used Mossbergs are common. You are almost always going to be better off selling it to another individual.

Alright, Thanks guys. This is just my first time selling a gun, and it is a pawn shop so the guy does have to make some money off of it. Oh well, thanks!

Expect a 40% offer for what you pasid for it from ANY gun/pawn shop.

And that's in new condition.

If you have a friend you can trust to sell it to,offer it to him for $300 and let him come down to a $250 sell price.

Otherwise,I'd just keep it.

You will lose a lot of money buying guns and selling or trading them just a few months later.

I speak from experience.

never sell anything at a pawn shop. either keep it or sell it privately. put an ad on here or the high road or local calssfieids if you have them. just dont post on craigslist, theyre crybabies

Question for HOTDOGS

Please advise your concern about the Mossberg 500 8 shot. I have been considering one for HD. Thanks.

Hogdogs will answer...

First it was meant to be tongue in cheek as a way to down sell the value...
BUT there is a basic problem with these guns... The 8 shot is highly limited in barrel selection. If I get a whim to buy a slug barrel or 28 inch field barrel... it is not available. I would have to buy a 5 round mag tube and spring plus the barrel...

The default assumption is that there is something wrong with used equipment, that you are trying to unload a lemon. Look at the 'worst gun I ever had' type threads, and people always end their story with "I sold it". A gun that won't run or that has some hidden flaw, and they don't care about the next person.

The used price discount builds in that risk. I might pay my brother what he paid, if I wanted what he bought, but certainly not a stranger.

Besides, the Mossberg 500 Persuader 8-shot is $329.99 + tax and background check right now at Dick's.

fyi to hotdogs - the longer barrels are in fact available.
