How many S&W Model 24-3 44 Specials were made?

This is the N frame .44 Special reproduced or re-created by S&W in the mid-80s, apparently at the urging of my favorite writer Skeeter Skelton. After the blued Model 24s sold out, S&W made a run in stainless called the 624. I believe the acceptance of this limited edition led to the later Mountain Revolver, and the current Mountain Guns in various chamberings. The Model 24 was essentially the same gun as the Model 1950 Target, with the slender barrel and square butt.

I'd like to know how many Model 24-3s were made, particularly the four inch barrel version. Is there a website with this kind of information for modern S&W revolvers?

From the "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson", there were 7500 24-3 made in 1983-84, but it doesn't give a breakdown as to 4" vs. 6.5" barrel lengths. I believe this number also includes the Lew Horton specials with the 3" barrels.

2500 in four inch

I found a very informative post on smith-wessonforum.com stating that only 2500 24-3s were made with four inch barrels.
